How do I use the Quake 3e engine on Mac?

I put it in the Quake 3 Arena directory. When I run it a message appears saying it can't find the game files and that I need to install Quake 3.

What does it mean by "install" and how do I "install" the game?

Does anyone know the folder structure I need to use for Quake 3e?

I read on the discord channel that the Mac version is currently not functioning, something to do with silly Apple BS.

The readme should state that the Mac version compiles but does not work.

I guess I will have to build ioquake3 now.
