Valve, what have you done to this old game?

I used to play this on the first xbox. Then on PC, then a purchased version here on Steam in 2010, 2011.
Now ever since that update, or at least the one with the aero extension, the game is a buggy mess of;

random crashes, or goes out of game, shuts down without any Windows reaction. Then later on it just out of game and cannot alt tab back in.

Saves earlier did not always load (near sandtraps area or before)

From start to later on in the game, ocassional slowdown where I know there never was before.

Its nothing to do with hardware

Its nothing to do with high or lower end stuff as I have played this game on multiple PC components. And still never had this problem.

No I haven't messed with any files so no one go being repetitive by saying verify intergity of game cache

And if memory serves, people complained about this last year on this forum, or at least when that particular update came out.

Something is wrong with your setup. I've been playing HL2 over the past week with the alpha Cinematic mod 2013.... game works perfectly with none of the issues you describe.

I am also having problems. Out of a clear blue sky the HalfLife2 just shuts down and closes everything down to my desktop. So, I too ask what the hell happened?

It is aggravating as hell to pay for a game and have the provider screw it up to the point of being unplayable.

At the begining of Black Mesa East all the lightning goes off and so the game looks horrible. All white without shadows, any way to fix this?

I've had the same things, except for the saves issue, happen occasionally but not enough to ruin the experience. It might just be coincidental for me, but these things don't seem as likely to happen when I end the process "explorer.exe" in the task manager. Worth a shot, maybe?
