But:
"Grim Dawn Season 6 has ended.
How can I play and install Season 6?
Unfortunately, Season 6 is no longer compatible with the newest Grim Dawn version 1.2.1, and cannot be played even in offline mode. We are currently hard at work on Season 7 which will be compatible with the new patch, but there is no release date yet. Stay tuned to the discord server for more news."
however, what happened is the game updated right after/during? last community season, and did something/updated certain files so as i understand it the past leagues can't be played on current game version anymore, ie you have to rollback your game version and play the corresponding league to that game version.
Can't speak for active players (again it's effectively mods, so the playerbase will reflect that), when the leagues are active/in release play it seems like they have a decent amount of participants "by Grim Dawn numbers".
As for chat, only the last season had global chat i think? not 100% sure, but it's something the modders add/do manually with their league client iirc, (GD doesn't have it natively)
*note you can easily rollback to 9.8 without the above changes, as there is an official version left on the grim dawn beta branch, - 9.8 should also fit with Grim League season4, i think? otherwise works with S5 atleast
for s6 you'd have to rollback to 1.2 manually tho - and i'm not 100% sure that even since they didn't leave an actual post season version/you'd use the "active" version which i'm not sure is still up?
