I LOVE Path of Exile. Does this game hold up to POE?
As the title says, How well does this compare to Path of Exile?

I prefer Titan Quest to Path of Exile, but that's just my opinion. Path of Exile beats Grim Dawn at the moment, because Path of Exile was in development for 6 years. This is still in Alpha. So there really isn't any competition. I'm probably going to play more GD than POE once the game is released though.

PoE in beta was really rough but the final product turned out surprisingly well done.
This game looks much better even in Early Access so I will keep this on the radar for sure

Titan Quest was an amazing game, I bought into this when they first started allowing people to donate on their website. It's aimed at being the spiritual successor to TQ and it's doing a great job so far. GD is to TQ what POE is to D2. Can't really compare them.

grim dawn= titan quest; path of exile= diablo 2 LOD. I'd take path everyday. GD already feels dated on that old modded TQ engine.

It's better, it is like TQ mixed with D2. I do like Path of Exile but I think this has the potential to be the best action rpg in ages.

Path of Exile wouldn't give my poor Templar some pants all throughout Beta, so I'm jumping ship.

In all seriousness though, GD will play and progress differently. PoE is more about "no class, just skills" and GD, if it proves to be like TQ, will emphasize class combos. Moreover, a different story and setting.

Judging from what I've played of Grim Dawn's alpha, when it's finished, it'll be the best ARPG around.

Path of Exile is great too though.

PoE is good, especially for a free game, but I find it lacking a bit. There's an odd feeling of so much strategy in builds that there isn't any strategy to my builds. Cookie cutter is easy, but when I try to do something original (for me), I just end up randomly clicking things.

However, with GD, I approach it like TQ - pick a very limited number of skills to focus on, and pump the crap out of them with points (right now I'm fully spec'd into dual wield procs with 2 points in soldier for the every 3rd hit bonus dmg). It's fun, and I can play my next character completely differently by pumping points into a few select different skill lines.

I like GD better, and it will certainly have a vibrant modding community (there are TONS of TQ modders that did new classes, total conversions, etc).

Edited to correct a Freudian slip where I called Grim Dawn Titan Quest ;D

PoE has rare gloves that give you +40% spell damage and -20% cast speed, my dsp went down 10%

I played this for 5 minutes and realized how much more potential it has than POE. Not because POE is bad, because it's not. But the pacing of POE for me really takes away from the enjoyment. It takes far too long to pick up speed and the clunky character movements are hard for me to over-look.

This is just not true on so many levels. GD actually feels more like D2 then PoE does.

Enough said about what? Poe takes so many things in consideration for dps that more often than not the dps you see isn't right...

PoE has a skill tree and uniqueness like no other at the moment. titans quest is and always will be the bigger older brother who was always "offline" if were comparing.

But seriously if were throwing compares out why no1 mention sacred 2 gold? lol

Not at the moment at all, there is atleast 1/5th the content. And no competitive play, also the price is higher now to test it for them than it will be at launch.

Wait for the launch then buy it, in the mean time play path of exile for free = you win.

I've played both extensively and I prefer GD over POE, while I like POE and have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it I find the combat clunky and a bit stale. In contrast I think GD has the best melee combat in an ARPG to date, and now that the classic targeting system is available ranged is much more enjoyable too.

In terms of customisation, nothing can stand next to the POE skill tree but GD isn't lacking there either. If you talk about customisation in terms of items I would give it to GD, the amount of stats, modifiers and the like available, as well as 0skills brings favourable comparisons to D2 loot. I built a soldier who basically just stands around and lets stuff hit him while all his "On hit proc X" abilities granted from items kill everything. The current enhancement system is also very satisfying, particularly when you hit level 20 and you start to find some really nice components, they're rare but when you finally have a 4/4 ancient armour plate or a 3/3 Mark of Dreeg, godamn is it satisfying.
