[spoiler]Why are there maps that don't scale on player level?
I find the traitor guy's journal, and I choose to have the key to their secret club instead of pulling his heart out and piss on his brain.
So I entered the previously locked "iron gate" that was guarded by a bunch of occults.

Much to my surprise, monsters inside are way stronger than i am. I'm at level 15, and monsters in that map are at level 25 at least. They literally ripped my heart out. I got destroyed by them. Even though I've put all my points into blackwater cocktail, I still got owned.

I'm not complaining about difficulty, but it's just a very strange design desicion. Monsters at every where else scales with your level, and gain new abilities as you level up. In there, they out leveled me 10 whole levels.

I wonder, is that place designed to be one of the end game "maps" for the early access, or they would always out level and out power you?

BTW: demolitionist is really good. All I ever did was running into packs, throw a cocktail, then running to the next pack. That burning damage is so good, and it stacks if monsters are standing on multiple of them.

the cultist secret area is a high level map, while it might be possible for you to do if you got good gear, otherwise its better left for later once you are higher
Lamar 2013 年 11 月 9 日 下午 1:07
These areas are a way to find gear 'earlier' than you could had you not found them, if you can handle them. I've even found a level 26 set belt....I want to put it on :(

That being said, the cultist area is WAY harder than Hallowed Hill, and the boss guy in the cultist place doesn't even leave a loot orb behind. There is the nice treasure room past him, however.

Also, at level 25 the enemies remained 25-28, so I don't believe they'll always be higher level. I think the main areas will scale up to a certain level, while these hidden/side areas will have enemies set to a static level.

is there any way to open the iron door when i already killed the traitor?

Yes, of course, cause traitor's needs to die! Also you can get the "Key" if you slay some Occultists near that Iron Door, if you are lucky some Midboss will drop it.
I found in that Map an Awesome Blue Armor called "Doom Forged Breastplate" but i need to be lvl 27-.-

Salazar the boss in the cultist dungeon still drops items (one that is a unique item) and his "loot orb" is merely unlocking the door to the treasure room.

After a bit of power leveling, that level still kicks me around. Monsters in this region has so many curses, and debuffs, they crit you like crazy. That boss guy is nuts, drops nothing, but hits for like 1k in one and a half second. Such a massive pain in the crouch. Didn't get anything out of that dungeon other than a lot of frustration. Never ever going there again. even though they dropped me quite a few of greens, it was not worth that much trouble.

What class are you? For me as a Demolitionist the most annoying thing wasn't Salazar so much as his void minion that would put that horrible curse on me.

Mortar works wonders. It won't distract him but does plenty of damage while you run around trying to not get fried by lightning or murdered for being too close when he throws out those orbs. I'm raising a Nightblade now and I don't know what I'm going to do there honestly.

I actually like it like this. In RPGs it is not uncommon to have secluded areas that are much tougher than the area around them. Examples being Morrowind(TES), the Gothic games and Risen.
There are even some ARPGs that have this feature as well. Sacred(the first one) had a lot of those areas, where you could find a hidden dungeon that was 5-10 lvls higher than the area around.

It gives you something to look forward to(if you dont want to do it right away), or give you an optional challenge.

I like that the game gives you the option for a challenge, rather than holding your hand the entire way.

From what I've seen, all areas scale to player level. Except, there is a minimum and maximum level each area can scale within.

The cultist dungeon doesn't appear to scale at all actually.

Nightblade? just max the thrown dagger. ~700 crit per dagger and you throw 5. Salazar and his minion die pretty fast if you just kite them. Throw and run, throw and run.

edit: just did half his hp in one cast at pointblank range. Those daggers are fancy :P

I assume it just has a minimum level of 25. And since you currently can't level past 25, it only scales to the one level you have. Once you can level past 25, the dungeon should scale with you. At least until you hit it's maximum level.

It "may" be possible to modify a character and check with a level higher than 25 to see if it scales, but they likely also have a game maximum (which they will increase throughout aplha/beta, on release, and over expansions).

So yes, right now, it doesn't "seem to" scale, but it likely is designed to.

The Depraved Sanctuary is far tougher than any other location in Act 1, and that is by design. I have died many times in this location. Kiting is definitely the way to get through here. I have found that (for me at least), that the Occultist has a much easier time in here. The Bloody Pox skill is your friend! It works through walls, which makes things a whole lot easier..
