The very best ever, probably the only ARPG with a real open world. D4 somehow "tries to be" but its kinda empty. Sacred in the other hand is fully and wonderfully made and detailed.
Yes its good game.
Its definatly on my good list.
It does have very strong open world feeling.
Sorry i forgot to mention it.
02) Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn + Throne of Bhaal (Not an ARPG, just an RPG)
03) The first original "Divine Divinity"
04) Sacred 2 (since Sacred Gold was already mentioned)
05) The first original "Icewind Dale" (Not an ARPG, just an RPG)
06) The first original "Icewind Dale 2" (Not an ARPG, just an RPG)
NOTE: The Baldur's Gate games I listed has a lot of dialog and character development. Avoid, if you don't like reading dialog
😊
Dungeon Siege 1 & 2 are seamless if I remember correctly. Possibly 100% seamless i.e no loading screens 'ever' unless you teleport, even entering dungeons has no load screens. Kind of old looking now but the same kind of fun is there. About as old looking as Sacred 2 really. If you're interested, I'd suggest getting them on GOG because those versions will run better on modern PCs.
V Rising is a lot like an isometric aRPG, plus more, and is a fully seamless open world.
Only games that i havent tryed are dungeon sieges, v-rising and enshrouded.
I need to google these and check them out.
Thank u for all suggestions.
Diablo 1&2 (and D2:LOD), Torchlight 1&2 (and to a lesser extent TL3), Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, those all fall into one category (the one basically defined by the Blizzard North Diablo games).
Publishers also use the term "Action RPG" to refer to games like the Witcher Series and the Fallout series (or the Dragon Age games, or Mass Effect) (Skyrim would fall into this category too), and those aren't really the same thing. When they use the term "Action" in that context what they really mean is a C-RPG that doesn't use a turn-based system (examples being things like the Divinity Original Sin series, or Pillars of Eternity, or BLG3).
Games that fall into the first category:
The Borderlands games. Those are FPS-ARPG hybrids, but they're definitely ARPGs in the sense of Diablo. In terms of story, I'd say the best are BL2 and BL:TPS. BL1 is worth playing, but is cruder than the other two. BL3 has great game-play, but a terrible story.
Path of Exile: PoE was built to be a spiritual successor to D2. Be warned that it uses a G-a-a-S model, and the main game format resets every 3 months (roughly).
Technically, Wolcen and Last Epoch would fall into this category too, but I've never played either (due to the lingering criticisms of both), so I can't really recommend them.
Be aware that Torchlight: Infinite has absolutely nothing to do with the first three games and was made under license by an entirely different studio.
Had a blast recently on Zombasite Multiplayer:
You Start on a Random Map as one of 8 clans with faction interactions such as diplomacy and trading.
A town is designated to each faction with npcs you can take as party members, although you and other players are in the same clan/faction they get their own gated town with periodic raids.
You can take on quests, explore dungeons, and more, it really a cool seamless sandbox experience.
It's only drawbacks are janky controls and hitboxes, lack of skill balance or variety and really reaaally dated looking graphics.
Action RPG(ARPG) is a diablo-esque game
Action *Adventure* RPG is witcher type games and for some reason someone somewhere dropped the "Adventure" part and caused the confusion you comment on
Just an additional bit of information to help clarify the terminology
Open world part is not even only problem with Last Epoch for me.
One of the problem for me is that game looks and plays excatly like D3 or D4.
I dont see any difference when im watching gameplays of it.
When i play Titan Quest or Grim Dawn or Sacred 2 or Torchlight series, at least i dont feel im playing copy of D3 / D4.
Im pretty sure players who enjoy great deal of D3 / D4 will enjoy greatly of Last Epoch.
If i rlly want my action pack adrenaline high gameplay, i can just log on D4 and play it and its enough for me at this moment.
I have got lot of answers to my post, but sadly 90% of these games suggested i alrdy own and have played.
Might look that way but when talking about itemization/crafting just overall gameplay mechanics, LE is far superior to D3-4. Patch 1.0 launching tomorrow is also going to be enhancing the graphics quite a bit.
Well, yeah, that's how most players define the terms, (and is basically what I said).
My point is that Publishers tend not to make that distinction and tend to blur the concept.
