Playing Conjurer is like a Roller Coaster Ride
EDIT: (See the last post where I continued this thread).

(Normal)
It started off slow, but once I hit level 35, playing a Conjurer started being like I was riding a roller coaster.
Just hang on and enjoy the ride. LOL

My character is currently level 44.
One more level and I have maxed both the Occultist and Shaman bar.
My pets are:
Briarthorn
Crab Spirit
Hellhound
Revenant of Og'Napesh
Storm Raven

I'm also using skills to help soften the mobs.
Demon's Breath
Storm Totem
Wind Devil
Devouring Swarm

Constellations, I'm using more than these two, but these are already over level 10.
Shepherd's Crook
Fiend
(I'm currently working on the Bat for my Storm Totem)
I'll probably have to respec things later, but right now it's working.

All of my resistances are 40+% except Stun and :sigh: yes, Aether.
I know Aether resist is very important to improve, but I have not got a complementary gear drop to fix it yet. 😊

I used a pet conjurer to kill crate on hardcore after many failed attempts with other chars. I found leveling it to be quite painful lol. But I've never been into pet builds. The first hardcore conjurer I made was much easier to level, focusing on spells instead of pets. Leveling with devouring swarm and vitality primal strike makes it so easy.

So far, the only close call I've had was Zaria, the Carver.
I just ran away, healed, ran back and kept tossing Storm Totems plus Devouring Swarm, while my pets kept him busy for the most part.

Those shards of his can zap ones life out fast if not careful. 😊

I once had a Conjurer. It is a pet build. But stopped playing it after I found Ritualist. For me my Conjurer was a bit janky. It was of course my first pet build. That said, was fun while it lasted.

Currently I am running a ritualist which has high resistant long living pets. I went the opposite path from Mogdrogen the Wolf. But I did give all 11 of my skeletons Flame Torrent(Fiend) that procs 85% of the time if placed on pets. They also run with Venomancer Aura. Which makes them even more dangerous. This build I do not think would work well with conjurer as you have big single pets. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/0V0zRDyN

I wish you the best with your conjurer build! Hopefully it is highly successful for you!

Probably too many skills being used here. Unless you're well up on the game's mechanics you either go full petmancer or none.

I 100% agree, it is a lot of skills.
I will not focus on skills for myself, but rather my pets.
I only wanted some small skills for myself, to help soften the mobs for my pets.
Enabling me to be able to still do something should they all die instantly and I get caught in their few second recharge.

With Devotions you should be able to pick devotions that help both you and your pet at the same time. Also maxxing out both Shaman and Occultist lines may not be the best thing. I can understand Shaman. But see no reason for maxxing out the occultist line. Especially at your level of 40.

You could be using those points on maxxing out your pets or pet related skills in both of those skill trees. You still have over 130 skill points you can apply to skills before reaching level 100.

The example of my ritualist above. Notice that character is in its 60ies. I will max out the Shaman line eventually for the Shaman last skills. But while leveling I get as close to maxxing the pets first.

Just doing that would make a big difference. Enjoy!

painful? once you reach primal spirit aka cat then all you problems with leveling ar gone, cat shredds through all game content with extreme easy, like sharp knife through soft butter

Yeah that was a fun build! Combined with totems, almost unstoppable. Only annoying thing with pet builds (if you have alot of them) is that they take up alot of space when you're trying to click on things!

I've been on the Shaman fence on which to choose.
Primal Cat
-or-
Primal Bond
I was leaning towards Primal Bond, but after the post by Safarel, I am unsure.
Any Suggestions between the two?

Why not both?

Oh, you can use both?
I'm used to other games that I have played, where the top skills like those, one can only use one or the other but not both.
That is marvelous. 😊

My first character was a pet build, but I found that focusing on pets 100% made enemies die too slow and it got too boring. So, now I'm redoing my old character build and created a hybrid pet build to speed up killing w/ DoT, while also offering support heals + buffs and debuff to enemies.

I only use the hellhound for now, I dont want to branch off into too many different types of elemental dmg. Just want to stay focused on my own DoT dmg, my hellhounds dmg, and offering support for both of us. i imagine I'll need to update as I get to higher lvls but for now I'm doing quite well with it.

Or like a hot knife though cold butter?

Of course I am only speaking of (Normal) play and I am using 5 pets currently.
I have found, 1 single point in a direct character skill(s), plenty enough support to make pets demolish mobs and bosses very, very fast.
One has to keep watch of themselves, because part of the time your character becomes the target of enemies.

EDIT: At start, I mainly had to rely on component skills to bridge the gap, until I was able to get Storm Totem.
