What is Strang Key used for?

Hi just wondering what is the Strange Key quest? I saw another strange key but cannot pick it up. Anyone got this problem?

Access to the Depraved Sancuary. You can only hold one at a time. Once you unlock the door, it stays unlocked for that character.

You will find the Strange Key in multiple areas which can be dropped by Cultists. It makes sense to find multiple copies since the cultists would need them to access the Depraved Sanctuary, their "main base" in Burrwitch Outskirts.

Btw, I saw some portal at the left of the main town....are those accessible in the game?

The Depraved Sanctuary is to the right side (default camera rotation) of Burrwitch Outskirts. The riftgate locations on the left of the map are for Act 2. Act 2 should be ready for testing in about a month according to the devs.

Besides DS, Is there a second area that uses a Strange Key? I fought a group of Cthonics & now I have a second Strange Key in my poscession.

I really hope this isn't the start of a Depraved Santuary franchise. Sweet Nodens, those cultists are a pain to fight....

Strange Key drop chance seems to have been improved.

Otherwise yes they will continue to drop strange keys once in awhile since the poor cultists need to have a way to get back into their main hideout yes? Having just 1 key would be a bad idea in which case Salazar and co. would starve inside DS.
