I think I;m getting too many bugs for someone playing this in 2023 tbf, with no mods or expansions (and I doubt I'll be buying one either, as a seemingly-constant 15 quid for them is now actually a lot of money at this stage I feel). Sometimes when I grind/bounty hunt lower than 'par' my Experience doesn't progress a single point until I reload the game (so annoying when you don't notice), and it looks like a couple of earlier bounties from Act 1 didn't clock, even though I reported them.
I'm not going to start over though. I think the game is 'ok', but as a general example of it's genre I think it's a bit overrated. I was enjoying games like Sacred 2 (which has to be modded) and Victor Vran much more by this stage, certainly the Diablos, Paths of Exile and Titan Quest. They all had a bit more character imo. GD does hone a few of the genres 'quality of life' issues for sure (spawning, easier combining and maybe teleporting), but it's decidedly unexceptional in story and imagination (even graphics a lot of the time, nice though they can be). It's sort of on Torchlight level, but (for me at lest) a lot less less slick. But I don't do co op.
I'm over half way in this now and am in two minds about carrying on. I kind of expect the game shines the most over advancing playthroughs (ie competing at the challenges) and when playing with other people.
Maybe the expansions are key to some of its problems, but no way am I adding 15 quid to this - it's too much. Maybe this should be my steam review, but I never know whether to give pos or negs for games like this. It's neutral all the way.
Again probably looking in the wrong place for it. It's at the camp by the Old Arkovia riftgate, not the one by the Arkovian Foothills one. Not sure if it's immediately available or if it only appears after you've done their first couple of quests.
As usual verify the game files, make sure your drivers are up to date and that you've excluded the game from being checked by an anti-virus programmes you have.
I can't follow this story! The mapping is no help, the larger one is too simple and I can't seem to memorise anything in this one. I don't claim to read everything but I just can't get to grips with this game.
Am I wrong about the Experience too? Is it switched off for rekilling enemies and heroes which are levelled below you? I'm pretty sure I've lost completed bounties in Devil's criossing though, it seems to have looped to the first again.
I will verify my files etc. I use a VPN and things like that, but don't mind switching them off from time to time. If I'm putting more hours into this I just want to know it's not the game. I'm enjoying my build at least (soldier-demolitionist with soldier being totally accidentally chosen into the game - I am using forcewave, not very exciting maybe but very blasty and satistfying with the bombs too (it looks like a shotgun/flamethrower). It reminds me of the shotgun in the original Doom somehow, quite wide and you can keep it quick loading. It's a maybe a touch samey though as I'm really just adding multipliers to it with largely health perks. Atm I'm smashing almost everything, I'm just held back on the things to do.
I'm not sure about your issue with them but keep in mind that bounties are repeatable. You can and will get the same one. If you're grinding them (not recommended until Ultimate really) you'll run into repeats pretty darn quick.
If you're having so much trouble navigating that you don't mind moderate spoilers, use the Grimtools Map[http//passive_memory_of_battle]. It shows where pretty much anything significant is in the game. (Just don't start looking everywhere or you'll find secrets whether you want to or not.)
A lot of the world background is in the notes you pick up, conversations with NPCs, etc. While Crate is now self-funding their next 2 games in production, Grim Dawn was pretty low-budget so they chose to focus time/money on things that make ARPGs fun to play, leaving the voice acting, cutscenes, and other shiny (and super expensive) stuff more or less alone. A lot of the current VA was redone or added after release.
