Fangs of Asterkarn approximate date
Quick question about the new expansion's release date.

I know it's supposed to release this year, but do we know whether it's expected to be early or potentially very late in the year? Thanks.

Edit: just to clarify this was a genuine question as i don't keep up with news and am not currently an active player, should've checked around first since this seems to be a frequent question. Thanks to the developer that commented directly!

With all due respect to Grim Dawn, it's getting annoying with how long it's taking FoA. If Zantai wasn't such an insufferable stuckup prick about it, I wouldn't even care. But we're talking almost 1.5 YEARS since the announcement for an add-on at this point. Fact of the matter is GD will soon be an entire DECADE old in 2026, and it's starting to show its age. Like 'Dear Crate: Hire some more people, approve some overtime, develop carpal tunnel, I don't care just get this add-on out before the game becomes unstable on next gen computing. It's still a single core game ffs!!! TBA 2025 ain't good enough. At minimum there should be a Q#, like Q2 2025 or something. For as much as they did right, I feel like they are f*cking FoA up royally.

Tell me how you really feel.

Frankly, I'm glad we're not in the business of overhiring to rush a project out the door so that we meet an arbitrary publishing deadline, then being forced to let people go when we no longer need them or can't afford to keep them a year or two from now. But who cares about people having jobs or getting injuries as long as you get a DLC, am I rite?

Nevermind the fact that just throwing more bodies at a project doesn't magically just cut development time. People need to be onboarded, ramped up on the project, and they require additional oversight from existing team members until they can fully get into the same mindset and direction the project requires.

We'll release Fangs of Asterkarn when we're happy with the results because we have the privilege and independence from publishers to do so.

P.S. Grim Dawn is not a "single core" game and never has been. Runs just fine on my "next gen computing" hardware I just put together too.

Ah. So that's why over 14 thousand people in the gaming industry lost their jobs last year, why so many studios shut down and even Ubisoft - one of the big AAA Dev studios is close to bankruptcy. Because the game Devs are tired of playing nice :D

Personally I like your game, spent a good time (197 hours) playing it, moved on to newer titles. I'm only here because I was checking on the update that just dropped but this petty argument caught my attention by having an actual game Dev respond. Very novel approach to PR tbh.

Take as much time as you need to finish the DLC, I'll take as much time as I need to buy it at a discount that matches my expectations of the final product.
Cheers!

You'd think these people in the industry would have learned their lesson after the numerous failures in the last 5-8 years(Concord, veilguard etc), but no, they still look down and despise gamers. pathetic really.

Are you trying to say those tens of thousands of developers lost their jobs because they weren't nice to players?

Are we really go down this rabbit hole in this random thread? I mean, I can give you some insight into the matter if you'd like.

I prefer popping into threads over regurgitating PR lines and big fake smiles. Remind people that we are in fact humans behind those company logos.

And, as it turns out, people on the forums enjoy watching bad arguments/logic get shut down.
I know why developers lost their jobs, corporate bloat, incompetent c-suite execs and useless dead-weight DEI Hires. Besides I was replying to Tyr, I have no interest in discussing crap with you. I only care about how good the games are and being treated with respect from companies I buy from. I don't care about dev sob stories.

This was my fault for accusing Zantai of being the best.

Truth be told, I stole major thunder away from Last Epoch launch with a meme on reddit, in favor of Zantai, and I got a little impatient as of late with the delay of Fangs.

With all due respect to Grim Dawn, let's end it here.

Out of curiosity, can we get some clarification on this?

I just checked, and while it does seem like GD may be using multiple cores, it still also maxes out Core 0. You disable and re-enable Core 0 to get it to spread out a bit more, but when left alone with Core 0 maxed, performance is noticeably lost in graphically intense situations, just like with TQ.

Has the team done some work to mitigate this that I just forgot about? Between how long GD's been around and how many hardware changes I've gone through, I honestly can't remember if it used to be worse.

Grim Dawn does push the first core hard and depending on how powerful your CPU is, it can max it out, which is why this myth persists to this day. We're talking about an engine that was first developed when the majority of processors were still single-core and dual/quad core processors were only starting to enter the market.

Our programmers did off-load various processes to other cores though, so I can say confidently that the game does not rely solely on a single core.

Probably for the best.
