I know that for me, and many others as well, once I played the league, vanilla lost all interest for me. There's just too much awesome content in the league to ever want to go back to playing vanilla. So I personally only play GD when the league is active. In between seasons I go and find something else to play.
As far as whether or not you should play this current league, depends on how much time you have to play between now and the 19th. If you've never played a league, it wouldn't hurt you to hop on and learn all the new mechanics, new bosses, and new areas so that you're prepared for next league which will be a month or so after the launch of the new DLC in February. There's a lot of neat stuff to learn in the league, so feel free to hop on and get acclimated.
Mmhm. I play season 2 and 3 but didn't get really far. Only made it to lvl 30 40 on HC. I mostly just enjoyed it simply to talk to other players lol but ive been wanting to get really heavy into some game, been thinking Grim Dawn but i was just curious how many people are playing the league compared to Vanilla.
Well, the best way to answer your question is by looking at the leaderboards for the league right now. There are 4500 people on the SC leaderboard, and 1400 people on the HC leaderboard.
This is a significant increase from previous seasons. Since you played S3, S3 only had 700 in SC and 500 in HC.
If you decide to play league right now, the global chat isn't very active anymore. So if you're looking for community interaction, you'll probably need to wait until S8.
I may still play it regardless.
But now pretty mach major part of players leave league because they are created all build they want, kill all ubebosses, participated in leaderboard
If you want you still can play leage, and i actuially advise you to do so, because next leage non even on horizon because we waiting that dlc arriving in spring
it's a fan made mod that introduces new content/items/ect... like leagues in PoE or Diablo.
New big region, new enemies, new factions, new quests, new ingredients, new nemesis, new uberbosses, a gigatonns of new equipment and sets, completely new mechanics like items corruption and affix transmutation, boundless dungeons, online leaderboards and challenges, and so on, list of features are really big
In terms of content league is unofficial dlc, not just "mod"

It was first started by MikeFic and Serious Stan in Nov. 2020. And I suppose RektbyProtoss as well since he is the only one to construct the threads relaying info on them.

The real beginnings tho began more as a PvP tournament type thing.

It has evolved and grown quite a bit since then.
