Or, you can always use Grimtools. upload your character there and share it here to be sure.
I basically use occulist for more attack buffs and the pets and rely on the demo for the damage. The Static shot also really helps to max out after you unlock it as it will even stun certain bosses (not sure if all), together with the volley fire procs and stuff I can at least low key stun lock elites in the open world.
It all depends on build and like other says your char stats, namely resistances, and armour/phys res to deal with phys dmg, some modest DA and ofc HP pool as buffer.
That's your basic defence, then you need some way of recovering from dmg taken, which means some sort of constant healing (blood of dreeg and heal pot isn't enough if facetanking/not being a pet build etc). Usually that means lifesteal focus if weapon attacker or health regen and or heal procs if caster
Bosses might have varying attacks that demands differing levels of defence or HP amount to soak, and some might be outright intended to be avoided (slow windups/falling rocks from the sky etc), but still even only few of those should be able to actually 1shot an avg build.
bosses are immune to Stun and most other forms of CC as they have 100+% CC res and needs to be specifically CCres shredded, like OFF/BladeTrap does to apply their effects
Pyromancer is inherently squishier than other combos, but it offers massive resist reduction, lots of flat damage, hp regen, and often damage absorption on possession. Meaning you can afford to build more defensively. Your damage as a pyromancer is bonkers so the focus is building to stay alive so you can do that damage.
In contrast, a warlord (oathkeeper/soldier) has a ton of defensive perks, and they have more incentive to push offense to offset it.
i don't think i saved anything from it, but my own recent('est?) Pyro was a total meme, fire DEE and fire doom bolt levelling (obviously something we don't recommend as a beginner)
still hit all the marks, 80 res, 150-200 hp per char lvl, armour rating/absorb up, tons of healing, and the innate dmg scaling + couple choice items to boost the skills still meant it was nuking everything on Veteran while having no issue surviving the campaign content or side bosses/dungeons (and i don't foresee that changing much for Ultimate scaling later)
The main difference is simply just the knowhow/experience aiming for and obtaining XY stat/benchmark in terms of defence/resist hp healing etc, with extra "free" offence likewise then having its own sources. And the main reason some/newer players might get the perception X either isn't there or feasible, supposed to kite, only do X with Y class or Z build, is then simply about the awareness of the stat thresholds and when/where/how to obtain them.
Because the various stat/benchmark possibility and availability then being there, means with that awareness/experience GD allows even silly meme char builds to clear through campaign relatively comfortably.
Devs did a pretty good job ensuring that every class can do pretty much everything, and without too much hassle/restriction or char/build limitation, so that everyone can get through campaign and eventually reach Ultimate
It takes some willpower to say "okay maybe I don't actually NEED 150 RR and should try to get 35 physical resistance instead".
But yeah, you just got to know when to divert into defenses. I'm currently playing Blazerush and it is rather fun, lots of very big smacks. But I also had to drop Korvaak devotion and pick up some boring low tier phys res ones instead. Iron Maiden was dropping my hp to 5% hp (on hardcore) and pretty sure I'd have died without clutch aether cluster and some luck. But with some extra armor and phys res I can just right-click her without worry now.
Also, the difficulty is on veteran
get new shoulder and head armor, craft scaled hide to increase armor absorbtion, usualy my component for armor goes, 3 anti venom (head, arm, belt), and 3 scaled hide(pants, armor & shoulder), 1 mark of traveler/ mark of mogdrogen. this should be enough to carry you through normal difficulty,
on low level, regen work much more better than lifesteal btw.
also mind your resistance make sure all 80% before chaging difficulty.
either use 2 hides, legs/shoulder, or at most 2 hides +1 ancient plate(still a bit waste), or 1 ancient plate and 1 hide (if you get bonus absorb like in Soldier/scars of battle or devos or helmet affix)
3 hides gives you nothing beneficial in return for the last hide/extra blocked slot, can be used on much better component be it defensive or offensive, resists etc
