Best Arpg?
So having played them all including POE2 early access, I can safely say that Grim Dawn is the best. POE2 is clearly overated ( well in the state that it is right now ) and it seems like GGG missed the point. Last Epoch is good but the engine feels terrible. D4 feels ggod in terms of ambiance and art but Blizzard are so disconnected and every season feels the same. Same builds and progression. Myabe Titan Quest 2 will bring something new and similar to GD but from what i've seen from gameplay videos it looks far from finished and brings nothing new to the table.

Maybe ARPGs are getting stale and more of the same ?

I can't wait for Fangs to come out and jump back in.

I love Grim Dawn and its DLC's.
I finally did try Path of Exile and as I thought, I did not like it.
The Passives I had no problem with.
What I didn't like was.... a lot of games are going the Souls route when it comes to bosses.
PoE does that.
I also do not care for Seasons.
I'm a casual player.
I'm lucky to get 6 to 8 hours of game time in, in a week.
I'm also a slow player.
I don't like to rush through things.
I also do not care for Live Service.
Nothing will kill a game faster than Live Service unless it is a sports game.

In any case, I agree agree with the OP on how good GD is.
I hope the Crate team makes their own GD2 game and doesn't try to emulate other games. 😊

Grim dawn is by far the best in terms of being offline. The devs support you on modding the game. The combat is also sorta slow which I like, But some of the skills kind of look clunky but still passable.

Poe1 as much as I liked it is way too fast now, if you ain't zooming on your build it's like in the bottom tier.

Poe2 kinda slowed it down but there are still fast builds. And it's really not souls like at all. People complain about that in poe2 but that's only because they're stuck at the low levels or early campaign or it's their first time. You absolutely demolish everything in poe2 once you realize there's some really OP skills early on.

I don't care for....
dodge, dodge, parry, and finally attack one or two times.
kite, kite, kite, throw one spell, dodge, kite, dodge, parry, attack.
Heal, dodge, parry, heal, dodge, throw a spell.
I don't care for games where I do more dodging, rolling, healing, and kiting than attacking.
Don't get me wrong.
I'm not into easy toe-to-toe battles neither.
I like that well crafted balance.

did you get to play the end game of PoE? because I assure you its not even like that. you kill things so fast. Grim dawn has a problem like that too where all you do is stand there and use your dps spell

It may not be the best in the genre, but I cast my vote for Sacred 2 and Torchlight 2.

GD.

Best crafting system.
Best loot and set items.
Chase items from bosses.
TONS of hidden areas.

Imagine GD with POE2 graphics, that would be amazing.

Imagine Crate making Inquisitor - Martyr, now that would be amazing ;]
There's really no competition, unless you like MMO grindfests like PoE and prefer your ARPG fix solo/co-op with IRL friends like i do.

Grim dawn will be my alltime favorite, only the nostalgic feeling of playing Diablo 1 so many yeras ago for the very first time and obvisously the improvement and overallfeeling of Diablo 2 will it not conquer, but if you take a look at todays games i'm totally with Shotty.

btw. if you know the Vanilla game inside out i highly suggest the Mod "Reign of Terror", i have a blast with that for a few hundred hours more :)

Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 before GD was released. Still amazing games with the whole party system and autocasts and such. Wish more realtime arpgs did that.
