Don't forget Warcraft 3 is a very different game. Yes its topdown, but in WC3 you control multiple units which might not even be on the same screen view. So auto-casters are much more critical in that kind of game because you can't keep your healers selected all the time and your mages and your anti-flying spiders and your several lord heroes and all toggle between their abilities.
GD has only 1 character and its always selected. So auto-casting becomes a helpful thing in some instances but not all instance. Considering some pets can be used as weapons on the unsummon and cost a fair bit of mana you might well have times that auto-casting as a default option on pets might not be desirable.
At the same time pet-heavy builds are basically casting pets and then doing less damage themselves so they've basically no "need" to auto cast on pets because they, as the player character, aren't doing a vast amount else triggering off other abilities.
The auto-cast on buffs made a lot of sense because there's basically no reason to turn them off once you get them. They are just there all the time; they don't degrade or vanish during fights. I can wager if there were counters that could disable your buffs then auto casting for them might not have been brought in.
Toggleable autocast on summons might be a good middleground. In theory if you've got pets you want them around more so than not; but then pet builds might get a touch too dull if you really don't have to do much other than run around and let your pets auto-appear and do all the work.
Indeed, stubbornly using my hands is a display of toughness to make anyone on the internet cower in fear and insecurity. That is 100% the intended purpose.
Probably because I also have to summon storm totems every fight
This is one of the barriers preventing me from petmaxxing
