devs reject putting infinite storage into game and directs to using the tools instead if desired
*iirc it was still dismissed after FoA reveal too/again
What you are looking for is Grim Dawn Item Assistant:
https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/tool-grim-dawn-item-assistant/30491
It's third party tool that does exactly what you want.
If the storage is unliimted, people will throw every random trash there, suddenly you have to make search function powerful enough so it can handle that, and most of the loot becomes meaninglessly lost in the void, since it will never be used.
If the storage is limited, people have to make a choice and keep what they think is worth it. You can discuss how big/small it should be, but in the end you have to set the number. This makes items actually worth looking at, you can also scrap excess items and get components or sell them, since you are not compelled to throw them into the void.
What does/doesn't make sense in the game world is secondary to how the game is played and designed.
You would also die permanently and never respawn, if you get hurt, it would take long time to recover, if you die, it's permanent. If you get sick, you are highly likely to die, it won't disappear after few seconds. More severe injury puts you out of business for a long time, if not permanently.
You definitely wouldn't conjure up infinite storage out of nowhere, and definitely not for everyone.
"IMayBackstab: @CrateEntertainment any plans to assimilate some of these inventory/stash mods for a 5 or 10 dollar fee? Your players would be happy to spend that while also not splintering the player base as much with mods
I mean the people who have created these utilities for you guys have done them from their own free will for free and us basically taking that and charging money for it seems very unfair to them. And from our development perspective we have design decisions for why the bags are limited as they are. It is not just arbitrarily limited to screw you guys over, there are genuine reasons why that isn't the case. But for those of you who want more stash space, that is why we allow modding and that is why you can use those utilities so you can have as much space as you want and because they work outside of the game they don't splinter the player base. You can't only play with people who use GDStash or GDIA, like you can play with everybody."

They have said they're trying to do something about storing components/crafting materials separately with the new expansion, but that's it far as I know.
Fangs of Asterkarn is coming some time in 2025.
