Grim Dawn has more current players than Diablo 4 on steam.
About 6500 for Grim Dawn vs around 5000 for Diablo 4.

I think this really says a lot right here.

Well yea, its the better ARPG. With more content and build variety, than the new open world MMO whatever d4 is. Imagine "seasons" in GD :elexrage:

I liked D4 at first, but the buyer's remorse set in after some time and I consider it the death knell for a once great series. I thought D3 had issues, but D4 made me miss playing THAT one. Ugh.

I don't mind online with seasons, as long as that's not at the expense of the single player offline experience.

Path of Exile has more current players than Grim Dawn on steam.

About 13000 for PoE vs around 6500 for Grim Dawn.

I think this really says a lot right here.

1) Don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.
2) You do realize that Steam is not the primary platform for D4, right?

I may not like D4, but trying to cherry pick your numbers just to make a troll post is just pathetic. Give your clown awards here instead. Please and thank you.

I understand, I am :PixSe: school. I liked when devs give you their game when you buy it. And build with expansions. I truly dislike the whole come back in a few months and play again for a few days then drop the game *rinse&repeat* "season" stuff.

You seem mad. Stay that way, thanks.

For me being offline and moddable is what makes for a legendary ARPG. Grim Dawn, Torchlight 2 and Diablo 2 all have amazing mods that change/enhance the game and keep it alive for years. When you lock an entire game perpetually online, it can't grow past what the developers do with it, and this genre greatly benefits from growth granted through mods imo. PoE manages to work without mods because the devs are seriously sweaty with the work they put into that game, because they know even a slight content drought will send players away.

Agreed 100% But with the whole always online stuff today we probably wont see any AA or AAA games like this again. :steamsad:

Get some help for that gamer rage kiddo. It's not healthy.

I think Syth is just pointing out the pointlessness of comparing active playerbase numbers. That information is only really useful to devs, and when used as a point of criticism against a game, is kinda cringe. There are plenty of great games that have very small active playerbases, while I'd argue plenty of mediocre games have enormous ones. Player count has very little to do with a game's quality on an individual level.

while i dont' disagree with the overall sentiment you're making there, isn't 13k kinda low? i mean even for PoE? doesn't it usually sit higher? :tiwthink:
also, kinda amazed that a F2P game doesn't pull higher numbers/only twice as much as GD, (also even if 6k is kinda on the higher end of the norm for GD/"right after big update" to inflate player count a little)
*not a PoE player, but for some reason i thought it was usually sitting at like 25k-50k

Yeah, I'd have to imagine that most D4 players are on Battle.net.

(yes, I have GD, and I have D4 on B.net. Yes, I've played GD more, and more recently, than D4. /shrug)

Blizzard doesn't actually share the numbers. D4 is a bad game because of its game design regardless of how many play it. I specifically specified Steam, and never suggested or implied that those were the total # of players across all platforms. With that being said, such a huge AAA game from a top studio under performing against an old indie ARPG from the same genre on *any* platform does say something.

I agree with this.
