Top 5 builds for 1.2
Hey there community,

I'm a returning GD player who will be bringing a friend with me who has never played GD.

Can you give me what you believe are/will be the top 5 builds in terms of clear speed and survivability.

And a side note: if there's a way to play a Righteous Fire style build that's decent, I'd be forever in your debt. RF in PoE was the best arpg experience I've ever had in this genre.

Thanks!

Check "RektByProtoss" on YouTube
Grim Dawn does not work like PoE or D3 in that sense, so the answer you'll most often get is "what's fun to you" or to provide a skill type, weapon type, damage type or combination of those that you find fun to then have people suggest builds around those.
There are just too many builds, conversion builds, item dependent builds, starter builds, build builds that there is no clear answer like in PoE or D3 meta builds.
1.2 is too new for those builds to be proper out yet
the ones that made the top20 list previous are in the process (potentially) of making a new/updated list for 1.2,
the patch was *just* released, so have a tiny bit longer patience than 15mins post update going live 😅

Any recommendations for non-DLC builds? $30 is wayyyy too expensive and all the videos I find on YouTube just assume you have the DLC.
Just go class you like and play, its not path of exile or d3, almost all build works in deeper knowledge.

With base game go dual wield assassin, vitality ocultist or Demolitionist with 2H weapons. ANd just play build you like.
I believe the biggest changes are to life leech / hp regen and a ton of items. So it'll take some time for the top builds to be known.

I briefly looked at the patch notes and it looks like a lot of pre-patch builds will still be viable, so find a build list and just follow that. The key thing to consider is how far you push into end-game as many builds only get "good" with set gear and high levels - so if you don't plan to do level 100 / max difficulty, then just pick whatever is fun for you.

If you want a suggestion:

1. Occultist/Shaman pet build is incredibly OP.
2. Anything with soldier can be pretty fun. Acid reflect is popular.

I just deleted all my old characters and backups in GD IA. What build do you guys recommend for a clean new start?
Nightblade, always Nightblade

Max level 85? Eww. I would just go soldier/shaman, pick either forcewave and go physical, or primal strike and go lightning. Look for items that boost the damage type you chose. All builds also assume you have the items, but of course you don't. So idk what the point is of wanting a build you don't have the items for anyway. So I would just follow that general idea of using what you got/what you find, to support the ability/damage type you choose. Warder is a very solid new player class. Lots of bonuses to health and damage and essential defenses like armor absorb and resists.

hi.

my vote goes for a forcewave build (any.. i enjoyed my tactician version but there are better combos) sword & board or two handed will do well. great aoe, great single target (two handed), lots of protection.. soldier (and) all the way for any new start.

all the best.

Oathkeeper mastery has eye of reckoning, which is the spin ability. Oathkeeper requires expansions. So of course there aren't gonna be any guides on how to play it without having it lol. Just like if you didn't have any money to buy the game, you wouldn't find any guides on how to play any builds without owning the game.

There are plenty of guides online of how to own this game without buying it which then breaks your "lol" analogy.....

So again they locked a fairly standard ability behind a $33 paywall.

How is this any different than Destiny 2 or other "Pay to play a bit but then pay to play more and oh wait you want to play with friends that have a DLC well you have to pay too.. oh and we are keeping standard abilities behind this DLC so you are going to have to pay to play that too".

Honestly the brown nosing this community does to a dev that has been doing some backward ass "These DLC are expansions" (but not really since the one with Oathkeeper adds NOTHING TO CONTINUE THE STORY, just an OP class and some filler content. $33 please!!
You do know you are insane right? Is it clear to even yourself? Should be...
Dude 1.2 JUST came out. Give it a few weeks.

It's been in public playtesting for months. We already know everything about it.
