Cunning is kind of worthless if you are investing into it for 'to hit' bonuses; much better to get gear with a lot of '+ offensive ability', since things like increased bleeding are wasted on Grenado.
I'm assuming the bomb skills are actually considered spells, so spirit would up your damage and give you more mana regen. Physique is for every class and needed for health and armor requirements.
Personally, I'd go 10 physique, 14 Spirit, and 6 cunning, but let some experts chime in.
Honestly, it's not worth taking a second class yet. At level 50 on my Soldier, I could still spend 20+ points in that class (and I have +3 to most soldier skills). Two masteries are spreading too few points too thinly.
I don't know who is looking for a 'viable' build.
The problem with a second mastery, is that you must spend points into the mastery itself, and those points are not refundable. Say you use 40 points total, to go in 20 on a second mastery, then 20 to upgrade a skill. 40 points spent in your first mastery would max out an entire skill line including the top tier effects.
I tried using the Demo's aura on a Soldier, and it sucked compared to fully upgrading the Soldier skill that increases attack speed and buffs allies (and saved me a ton of second mastery points).
I don't konw the game inside and out, but every low level skill (so you don't have to spend 40+ mastery points) I've checked kind of suck for the investment, compared to maxing a skill in the first mastery with no skill points wasted.
I'm not sure about the second mastery either. Curse of frailty requires only 1 in occultist and skills I want from soldier require 4, arcanist has flash freeze and other defensives that requires more points, but they're 1-pointers I think. Like you said James, going any further into other masteries seems like a waste unless they are one-point wonders?
I have a demo / soldier (commando) who uses the custom spec level 50 chest.
You pretty much need to go into soldier and pump the full 12 points into military conditioning, but no other soldier skills and use stat stepping to get into it (i.e. you use other items to get the chest on, then rely on the chest's own bonuses to then re-equip everything else like the helm Glory of the Silver Knight).
So, that's 17 points in soldier, the rest in demo cannister / grenado (no elec mod, not worth the loss of fire damage) and defenses with a couple of points in skills that I have massive bonuses for,
The advantages?
6.6k HP, +400% fire, +250% burn and awesome damage using grendao / cannister. Highest hit - 15,693
Edit - the chest I'm using requires 746 physique

You only do this at around level 45 though, concentrate on Demo first.
