low fps for no reason (SOLVED)
just bought the game and I love it but I dont understand why I constantly have 15fps in it no matter what graphics options. my pc should be able to handle this game with no problems at all. anyone else having similar issues?

Laptop? If so create a game profile for GD and make sure it 'forces' the correct card in your graphics drivers control panel.

I have a gaming desktop pc.

Also make a profile for your graphics card for Grim Dawn and make sure to choose "Maximum Performance" instead of the default "Adaptive" (at least that's what comes up on the nvidia control panel).

edit: I also turn off AA and force FXAA in the driver to help with frame rate issues and stuttering. Nothing I can do can get rid of it when heavy panning is happening a lot but doing this for my old amd 1090t and gtx660 has helped a lot. The release of the devotion system patch really smoothed a lot of the game out on my system. The only other thing I can really think of is maybe the frame rate limiter is on and set really low. I would also check temps of course and then cables. Pipe dream on the cables being the issue but it's happened to me before (on monster cables no doubt lol).

Might be a good idea to post your PC specs then when making posts concerning troubleshooting help so we know what we are dealing with.

A gaming rig should not be pushing that low of frames if it is indeed a gaming rig. Resolution and in-game settings are also relevant.

Asus Rampage II Extreme, i7 920 OC 3.2GHz, Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 3GB,
Corsair Vengeance 12GB Triple Channel DDR3 1800Mhz, Creative Labs X-Fi, 128GB Samsung 830 Series SSD
Played couple dozen games on this rig never seen anything like this. constant 15-20 fps no matter what graphics settings I change. I am clueless.

It definitely should not be that low then. I would suggest creating a game profile regardless and then take a close look at the settings you are using both in and out of game. What resolution?

full HD but I have tried changing - no use.

Hmm it is odd then because I have a fairly similar system spec wise.. An i5 and GTX 760 and I can run it with good fps from 1080p to 4k and rarely if ever see a drop below 40 with (mostly) Max settings.

If I had to guess tho I'd say there is a bottleneck going on. Can you monitor your cpu/gpu usage and temps while playing? It might provide some insight into what is going on with your setup and the game.

few chrome tabs I got opened eat more cpu/memory than Grim Dawn. Temperatures like while idle but my new discovery is that while the game in running everything works slower also windows explorer.. its like the game is draining life out of my pc.. :/ I have just tried other games like Star Conflict and POE just to be sure if its not the pc and they worked fine. while I am typing this post Grim Dawn runs in the background and letters appear with lag haha this is new one.

1) Try disabling HyperThreading in bios. Game is using sometimes less than 1 core( check cpu load with msi afterburner -1 core can be 60%, another - 20%). Simply bad engine architecture.

2) Check pc for malware(obvious, but still).

3) Prev. patch i got 37fps in first town with i3-4130 3.4GHz(r9 280x) and 45fps with i5-3570K @4.5Ghz(gtx 670).

/e try to use msi afterburner while playing. fps should be over 60 on low with your config if system is working right.

Try turning the background fps to zero or the slider all the way to the left and that cleared up my typing lag when the game was running as well.

Here is couple things to try to rule out possible corruption or other oddities:
Run the Repair.exe located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Grim Dawn
It will reset all your settings to default so you'll have to readjust them afterwards.

Also, verify the cache:
Right click Grim Dawn in your Library and choose "Properties".

Select the "Local Files" tab.

Press the "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" button.

See if either of those helps.

There is a "Background FPS" slider in GD's options. Mine is currently slid all the way to the left and I have no issues in/out of game while it is running.

tbh... the game is built upon an ancient engine so yes, you shouldn't get low fps.. But with my system I shouldn't either. The visuals are 2005'ish of the game and it still happens... One of the reasons why I stopped playing it... It just too much feels like a 2005 game with very poor level design... Feels like a quick game although it has been in development for what... 8 years?

You are welcome to see yourself out the door here as your opinion on the game design isn't relevant to the discussion nor will you find many that agree with the view.

tried everything including disabling Intel MT but no use.
