Armor Absorption over 100%?
Anyone out there able to clarify how the game handles armor absorption values beyond 100%?

Suppose I had 108% armor absorption and all my armor pieces had an armor rating of 100. Am I correct in my assumption that the armor would effectively stop 108 damage?

I don't think it's possible to get your absortion that high so god only knows if it does anything past 100%.
Ha ha. Its possible. I was asking specifically because I have 108% armor absorption.
I spotted only a single reference to armor absorption and its limitations. Several months ago, 5/18/2015, on the official forums for the game there was a posting by a moderator, or maybe staffer whichever yellow names mean there, and they stated armor absorption is "capped at 100%."

I understand that with the regular resistances like elemental, piercing, etc if you have above the cap it only displays the value cap. So if I have 120% piercing resistance my character tab only shows the maximum of 80% and despite being 40% over that its only actually using the 80% that is displayed.

So I'm guessing that either the armor absorption is displaying incorrectly in the character tab and not being properly limited to a 100% value cap or that at some point after that posting the mechanics were changed and it is no longer capped at 100%.

Sadly, without some form of combat log I have no possible way of determining myself whether my value being above 100% actually has any effect.

I'd love to hear an official response on whether its a display issue / cap not working or whether its intended to be this way... and if it is intended what does the additional % do mechanically.

Hmm recommend posting this on offical forums.

Yeah, sadly I might have too.

I've always avoided that place like the plague since the one beta-tester was, probably still is, an egotistical asshat that ruined the majority of constructive discussions that got started over there. Typically by being a know-it-all even when his information was actually wrong or trashing other peoples ideas, suggestions, or requests without even understanding what was being discussed.

Kinda turned me away from ever wanting to post anything there. Thats why I post all my bug reports and other things here. I found it more beneficial to discuss things here where, despite not likely ever being seen, at least they'd have a chance to be discussed rationally instead of just invaded by a tyrannical neanderthal.

Hmm I never noticed any nasty person on the offical forums since I been using it. It possible that he/she since been banned or been given a warning.

Not a clue if they are there anymore. I somehow doubt they'd have been banned though. They were a beta tester and highly active on the forums during the massive influx of people in the intial parts of early access. They were never reigned in at all during that point in time which would likely be the biggest PR time for the game so I can't imagine they'd have been addressed later on. Only hope is that they'd have moved on to some other game to ruin, but I doubt that as well.

Typically Zentai makes the rounds on these forums an answers questions. Hopefully they or someone else with answer it. If not I might post on the official forums, but more than likely I'll just wait for someone else to eventually ask it or have it answered. If nothing else when it comes time for all the modding thats bound to come people will disect all the various mechanics and I'll have an answer to it.

Glad I came across your thread here, I have the same question, my Blademaster has some wicked values on her armor much like yours. Same question, same question here!<----- :)

Default armor absorption is 70%. Any bonuses you get from gear or skills is multiplicative, so you cannot go over 100%.

Ex. 8% Increased Armor Absorption on your shoulders would give you 75.6% Absorption on your shoulders.

Thats exactly the information I've been finding when searching around the net for information on armor absorption.

On my character tab though I'm able to have my armor absorption rates pushed over 100%.

Is what I have showing not intended to occur?

For further reference, my armor absorption is normally at 95% but when I put on the Praetorian Shoulderguards it goes up to 101% and if I also put on the Praetorian Helmet it causes it to go all the way to 108%.

Those two items were where I first noticed it. I haven't really tried anything else that I've come across that boosts armor absorption to see if it causes that as well.

You must be using the same items as I then, for this is exactly what I have on her and this is exactly what is happening to her armor absorbtion too. Other pieces of armor so far are not doing this, at least I have not noticed it.

http://www.grimdawn.com/guide/gameplay/combat.php - looks like some of the items you use are bugged and add armour absorb, maybe it's also caused by some devotion points? It does also not mean that you take no phys dmg anymore, it's just that you absorb slightly more dmg than you have armour if its not capped at 100% inside their calculation.

From what DorkDiva++ said it sounds like we both were using the Praetorian Helmet and Shoulderguards when we had our armor absorption going over 100%.

As for my devotions they are things like the Turtle, Shieldmaiden, Scales of Ulcama, and... I can't remember exactly off the top of my head but its like the weasel or something thats just a bit left of the Shieldmaiden.

If my character save is needed to track down the potential bug or whatever then thats fine. Zentai or whoever just needs to let me know if they need it and where to send it.

So it's not working like TQ then? because in that at harder difficulties you would get hit by negative resistances etc and could negate those by pushing above the 100%.

Just go through their webpage, resistances are capped by 80%, can lateron go for upto 95% by using items that are currently not in the game yet. Get hit by 100 fire dmg with 80% fireres => take 20 dmg. Armor works differently. Get hit by 100, have 50 armour => you get hit by 65. Reason: 70% base armor absorb means 50 * 1,3 => 65 dmg taken. Now that he has 108 it prolly is 50 * 1 = 50 dmg taken. It prolly does not absorb more than you have armor.
