Not really. You would if you want to wield Pistols/Rifles so you can use Chaos Bolts, but other than that, no, not a whole lot of reason to use Cunning in an Occultist.

So what should I be doing for statting then just pure spirit? i'm doing most a pet master.

For pets you want to be doing as much Spirit as you need for gearing, and then pure Physique. The goal of a pet master is to make sure that you do not die. Spirit damage-bonuses do not affect pets at all.

What kind of weapon would I want in that casE?

Black Grimoire of Og'Napesh: http://gracefuldusk.appspot.com/items/1307-Black-Grimoire-of-Og'Napesh
Maybe a Fiendblood Spellblade: http://gracefuldusk.appspot.com/items/5622-Fiendblood-Spellblade but in that instance you would need adequate (270) Cunning in order to equip it.

Otherwise anything with pet stats. Sadly, most shields have no pet stats on them; only Lichguard has some Pet Health: http://gracefuldusk.appspot.com/items/1338-Lichguard

quick question here, is it better to do this 50 shaman , 10 occul http://grimcalc.com/build/r56QJb or this? 50 occul, 20 shaman http://grimcalc.com/build/mSvuY9

Really depends on the quality of the items you can find. The 50 occul/10 shaman would scale better with better items (Bonds of Bysmiel and Manipulation are REALLY strong), but if you're just starting out Primal Bonds would make you a lot tankier and the Primal Spirit could really put some hurt on bosses.

Either way, its worth noting that Curse of Frailty usually winds up pulling aggro onto your player character rather than your pets. Aggro mechanics in Grim Dawn are kinda funky.

Check out this pet guide. Its occultist heavy but still has good infos even if you go shaman.

Fiendblood Spellblade is the best pet master weapon in game ATM who knows what be best when legendaries turn up though.
The Black Grimoire of Og'Napesh is a focus/off hand and can be used with the Fiendblood Spellblade.

Stats wise as a pet master you should only spend what you need for gear nothing more until we see what the new lengendaries are. Since it be horrible if we spent our points in say Physique and now cant get enough spirit/cunning to equipt the new god tier items.

In genenal for all charaters it should be stat for gear requirements then the rest based on what you need. Physique = more DA & health, Spirit = More energy and magic damage Cunning = more OA (hit and crit chance) and non magic damage.
