Steam Deck suddenly missing mouse cursor?
I played this game some time ago on Steam Deck and recently reinstalled it but it seems like the mouse cursor is now missing due to a new bug?

Anyone know how to fix this? Changing proton version does not seem to matter and changing to x64 version does not help either.

just booted GD on my deck and had no issue with the mousecursor. but it only appears while you are in menu or inventory using right stick/right trackpad. when actually playing the game, it is invisible indeed.

Mine is missing everywhere. You can tell it's there because UI elements change color when the cursor hovers over them, but it's invisible.

Makes using the map especially frustrating.

verify gamefiles, up to date steamdeck, repair.exe in GD folder and, last option, reinstalling would be my standard suggestions, if you have not tried them already.

Here's a not so old post, where people have the same issues with some workarounds you can try:

Thanks but unfortunately nothing there worked.

I posted on the forum here and was able to figure out that it seems to be caused by how the trackpad/right joystick mapped in the official layout. It just says "Camera" but if you switch to a KB+M layout, the cursor appears and works fine.

Unfortunately the game seems unable to handle context switching between controller and mouse, so using the official layout with the trackpad set to mouse doesn't work.. Bummer. Hope they can get this figured out soon.

I managed to somewhat alleviate this issue while using the official layout. It does seem like the issue is with the gamescope-session file that's located in the root/usr/bin/ folder.

I tried setting the --hide-cursor-delay 3000 \ to --hide-cursor-delay -1 \ as well as --hide-cursor-delay 0 \ , but neither worked. I then just used a large int value like --hide-cursor-delay 210000000 \ which sort of works. So I only have to either tap on the screen or use use the "Steam" button + Right track-pad at the beginning of the game to get the cursor to show up once, then it will stay active for an entire game session.

Again, it's not really a "fix" but it at least lets me continue to use my customized official layout with the track-pad cursor.

I had been enjoying this game on Steam Deck with zero issues until a week ago when my in-menu/inventory cursor disappeared. Dug around these Steam threads a couple Reddit threads with other people reporting the same problem on both pc and Deck. Tried file fixes, control remaps, startup configs and everything else I could find. None of the fixes have worked so far =/

Hope this gets resolved soon. Anyone discovering a fix please post ty!

Hi everyone,

I bought my Steam deck almost exclusively to play Grim Dawn when I can't get to my desktop PC. After just over 1700 wonderful hours of play (most of them on the deck), the missing cursor is a disaster, especially with traders, crafting, skills and devotions.

After a sleepless night, my current solution by changing the controller settings (UI Controls) is as follows:

Left Trackpad Behavior --> Mouse
Touch (Release Press) --> Interact

Buttons (Back Grips - R4) --> Show Keyboard

This allows you to quickly navigate to an input field, for example, and releasing the trackpad immediately activates this field (i.e. the cursor flashes and expects a keyboard input). I then press R4, which opens Steam's overlay keyboard, which allows me to enter text quite easily.

I will probably refine this further for myself and possibly change the Release Press functionality, as this can lead to errors when assigning skill and devotion points, but for now it works quite well.

Have fun playing!

Unfortunately that's doesn't help me:(
For me it's difficult to see where my cursor is in the inventory.
They should make it more highlighted I think

It wasn't a GrimDawn problem, the game can insta switch between M/KB and Gamepad. It was the latest DeckOS.

Here is my fix for this issue:

Open GD on Steamdeck, select grim dawn -> Controller settings

Go to UI Controls -> Controller settings -> edit layout

Change trackpads -> Right trackpad behavior -> As Mouse,

Now,set a Mode Shift for the right trackpad, then:

Right Trackpad (Mode Shift) -> As Mouse

Right Trackpad on click -> Interact

This will let you use the right trackpad as a mouse and clicking the pad lets you pick up/move things in the inventory for example.

Tested, works fine even in mods. Have fun guys

Hi mate,

this still doesn't bring back the "Editing" menü for entering any text while filtering for materials and vendor items.

Do you have a workaround for this issue, too?

Thx.

Cheers.

Was this fixed at all in recent update?

Nope, still an issue. Came back to this game after a few months and guess I'll be putting it back down.
