Why does a lot of gamers and streamers call this game, Grim Yawn ?
I have been looking into this game for quite a while and I am yet to purchase because there is not an open beta, so I turned to streamers and gamers on youtube.

The general consensus is that the game is a big YAWN, which then they coined the game as Grim Yawn.

After reading and watching about it, I still dont quite understand it.

Can someone care to explain why the game has been coined as boring and uninspiring?

Thanks!

"The general consensus" you say. I don't know about that, I've also been looking to buy it and I haven't seen that at all.

You tell me. The person who coined the term is still playing. ;)

The majority seem to come from Krip and his PoE following. IMO This game has a heavy emphasis on ARPGs in the past, difficulty, exploration, large zones, and no hand holding with quest markers. The common complaint I keep seeing in relation to "grim yawn" is that there is no instant gratification when completing quests.. because it may be hours from the time you get the quest to completion. You aren't directly forced to go go linear if you don't want to.

To be perfectly honest the GD community watches Krip play the game with much enthusiasm because he isn't very good at it or rather he approaches it like modern ARPGs which is something this game has nothing in common with. The official forums gets a post about this every now and luckily for the community the reception is nothing like Krip has said. We have quite a few players who bought the game simply because krip played it and now prefer it over other games like D3, and PoE.. or plays GD in conjunction with them.

To be perfectly honest I don't think it is a true opinion and rather one choreographed to appease his following, he hasn't been soaking up the lime light in a while so drama may be part of what he's trying to accomplish. I say this because for a guy who seems to find the game so boring.. he streams it a lot and has a ton of hours into it.

Ultimately, the decision to get the game is up to you. My tastes may be way different than yours so it is not fair to me to really suggest the game. I do in fact enjoy it a lot.. and I have over 100 hours invested. I suggest you just keep watching streams, and try to make up your mind from what you see rather than what people say.

That only comes from Kripparian and his chat who were only interested in kripp playing Hearthstone or going back to PoE. Also Kripp didn't read up on the game's development and assumed that, it being a year since he last played, the game would have had far more done to it even though with a team 8 working on the game - there is a warning that development of the game may be slow.

Plus he started playing with a terrible one click build that wasn't quite effective and later got owned in the toughest dungeon in current content and complained - even though he was on the highest difficulty, playing HC, didn't farm at all for items that would have helped, and didn't read up on the dungeon/information/suggestions beforehand.

Other streams have far more positive view points on the game.

Utter nonsense! The game is an amazing experience so far which is about to get bigger and better.

That's why I coined my own term awhile back for PoE players but I guess I'll amend it for this situation and gang 'em up as Krip and My Lil PoE-nies: Wrath of the Bronies. In theaters everywhere Aug. 16th. Be there.

what is the deal with people being so interested with what "streamers" think. They aren't even pro gamers, especially this kripparian guy. He's just some normal really boring guy playing games, I've watched his stream and still just can't remotely understand what makes it so watchable/interesting for people. Wouldn't you rather just play yourself?

Cause the one that coined that phrase is a too bit hack gamer that in all reality really isnt worth 2 cents at making his own builds and playing them
I don't watch his videos but his name sounds familiar. I remembered seeing his name in the Guiness World Records book as the very first person to finish Diablo 3 Hardcore Inferno.

He does love the Grim Dawn it seems like as he still plays it often, pretty ok build too on his recent video at Harcore Veteran. I wouldn't blame him after seeing "Grim Yawn" video. He is saying some honest criticism and it is just the people that watch his video told him, probably many of them, that Grim Dawn is good in putting people to sleep when streaming.

Only reason why "Grim Dawn is good in putting people to sleep when streaming" is because of the streamer.

Compare ZIggyD's stream of Grim Dawn to Kripparian's stream and you'll see a massive difference.

Or just play the game yourself instead of wasting valuable life watching somebody else do it xD

The amount of fanboying in this thread is over 9000. I have watched Kripp play Grim Dawn today on Twitch.tv due to his YT Grim Dawn build video and he only said positive things about it, got me interested, so I went ahead and tested it, will definitely buy it the next time it goes on sale or is fully released.

As the devs seem quite active here, one might be so kind and explain why its DRM is so extensive considering it's an alpha, it is going to get released without DRM on GoG and it is literally free advertisement if it had none.

You are right, I should not base my opinion on what others think.

But at the moment, I have no means of testing the waters in this game and make a personal and informed purchase.
If I had access to a demo of sorts, then it would greatly help, but until then I have to gather tidbits of information and opinions here and there....

Using Steam during early game testing makes stuff like updates easier to handle. Atleast that is usually the reason for using steam in these cases. Crate might have another angle on it though.

Then check out different streamers(different playstyles, and different perspectives), hang around the fora a bit to learn about what is going on in the game and what is going to happen in the future.

The only reason I can think of using "Grim Yawn" is because it sounds funny.
Generally, ARPGs are kind of boring to watch as a spectator in the first place, especially when there is no MP/Coop gameplay(which is not in GD yet).

So yeah, a witty remark, that is all.
