On the topic, I have had some trouble too, just yesterday I managed to join a friends game. Yet we somehow were not in the party, and couldn't create/join one. Although we could see each other in the game, the game seemed to stubbornly fail to acknowledge the fact that two players were indeed online. Fun times.
Port 27016 is a requirement of the Steam server browser, it has nothing to do with the game. As long as our matchmaking server is running (and I just checked, it is), it isn't required. If your friends server is not showing up then it's likely to be a problem with his network or router, because for that to happen his system would have to be unable to contact either of the matchmakers.
He can try disabling all network adapters in Windows other than the one he uses to connect to the internet, and restarting his modem/router, and see if it makes any difference.
There are some issues with certain setups resulting in strange things happening in game which we are looking into, but actually being unable to see the game on the server browser is another issue entirely.
Sorry, English is not my main and I do not get this, although it sounds like an idiom.
Out of curiosity I would like to know wtf was that thing that happened to me. I was baffled and still am, even though it is no longer relevant, since I can play the game fine, it just took about half an hour of fiddling to get it going. We actually had a good laugh at all the things that happened (server running and can be seen, 0/4? players, yet can see each other ingame, cant create party though...happened, only once luckily).
Oh, and my friends game kept crashing (and the error logs were failing to submit xD) when he browsed the server list (refresh > crash). Not always, but frequently. And we still don't see each others game using the Server type: Friends, only when using the default list.
Calling this game broken would obviously be exxagarating. But such thread titles bring in views, this works the same way nearly everywhere. OP got a dev to respond so it worked perfectly too :D
Edit:
Hundreds of games indeed, I currently see something over 1k games with nearly 2k players.
Maybe little to much so let me say sorry for comment :).
Ports will forever and always be a thing, apps need a way to communicate with the IP stack. Until something new is designed.
The in game stuff would probably be either a bug, or a problem with the host. Did someone else try to host the session? Or was it a lan party?
For the crash try to validate the local file cache and then run the repair.exe tool in the GD folder.
It states he is playing a multiplayer game and he is able to game by himself.I can host and he can join games etc that works fine. As I can't find his game, I have also tried using the friends list on the left and using the 'join' button/also using the steam overlay and joining that way. The first states it cannot connect, the latter doesn't do anything.
His router supports Up2p and he has the option checked in the network options. Do we have any official or unofficial work arounds for this yet? I appreciate it may be difficult to offer a 'fix' if it is a problem his side :/ Does he need to go and fiddle with his router? Sorry if this has been asked many times
Love the game anyway :D
Thanks
