It has really everything that you want: build planner, collection of builds, all gear that exist in game and every enemies with all their abilities
Step two: priorities you damage type
If you plays on physical forcewave then look on grimtools gear with bonuses to physical damage, if on fire - so to fire damage
Step three: as a new player you could easily put almost every skillpoint into physique, leaving 10-15 free points to spend in spirit if you find cool jewelry that's requires a lot of spirit
second, defensive stats are more imporant than offensive ones, cuz when you are dead you cannot deal any dmg.
third, if you are new to the game, just explore everything and everywhere and try to learn as much as possible on the run and not just follow somekind of guide, without a deeper understanding of gamemechanics. and if you are worried about borking up your build/char, everything ingame is respecable (at least with all dlcs) apart from masteries.
Other choices depend on which damage type you want to deal. Physical is an obvoius choice but with, say, Sunherald's Claymore you can focus on Fire damage (best Demolitionist gear is from Forgotten Gods DLC!).
Devotion-wise it depends on damage type. Fire-Commando needs Elemental Storm from Rhowan's Crown and Ulzuin's torch. 2H = Kraken. Other Devotions - as you see fit. Thermite mine as a support skills for Resist Reduction.
For other masteries it is usually safe to pump everything into Physique aside from some points to meet gear requirements. With Soldier you can get a ton of Physics from mastery bar and skills so you have a lot more freedom here. Commando also have no problems with reaching OA/DA values other classes can only dream of.
That's how I'd do it.
