How to Fix the UI for those of us that use 4K :)
If you are having issues seeing the UI in 4K, especially if you use a 4K Tv, like many people do now, then just use 1440p and it looks fine. And to be fair, the only menus that are hard to see are the very first options menu.

Once you are in-game, you can scale your UI well enough for everything to show up perfectly.

:loot:
This font Mod definitely helped out for making the text easier to read. I'm using version 11. All you have to do is backup your fonts.arc file and replace the file with one that you like from this link. The Fonts.arc file is in your Grimm Dawn Resources Folder.

If you want the best possible viewing for 4K, and even non 4K then get the GrimTex & ReShade Mod from Nexus Mods. The ReShade mod makes the lighting pop and easily makes text more readable.

And, the GrimTex mod will improve all of the textures in-game up to 400 percent. Not a quality of life upgrade, but its nice to be using the best textures available. :)

I'm having a great time and enjoying the hell out of Grimm Dawn. :praisesun:

I dropped down to 1440p and the UI is better. The game UI is playable in 4K, but it's not ideal. The menu's are basically un readable unless you get real close. I can deal with 1440p, but I would be nice if the UI would scale a little farther.

I'm also using the GrimTex mod, which is an improvement as well,
main menu/options don't scale, can't even mod this afaik since it's an engine thing
ingame ui you can increase with the UI slider, and if that's not enough can alter the config to make it bigger. Caveat being UI slider affects everything ingame text and UI elements like hotbar, you can't increase them individually sadly.

When the engine was originally made 4k didn't even exist!

Yet amazingly games I play from that time still managed to scale their UI to easily see on a 4K screen.

Yeah, I’m just playing in 1440p and everything is fine. Once I’ve played for a bit and I have everything down I’ll probably switch back to 4K. Since it’s just the main menu/options it’s not that big of a deal. Before I started I figured the whole game was going to be like that.

If you didn't read the whole thread linked by Medea, basically this is the answer:

4k is still less then 3% of the market (it's actually less than MacOS, oof), and you're asking to retroactively support a resolution that was so rare back when the game came out (2016) it didn't even make the user survey.

We hear that 4k support could be better, and there's a non-zero chance a future update will improve it, but the cold reality is it's simply not something that's going to benefit most users and so it ends up not being a top priority, unlike the features we focused on in v1.2.

Yeah, I did read through that, and I’ve seen the same Developers response in other threads. No matter what that developer says, there is more than 3 percent 4K players for most games of this type. And, like I noted, you can’t even buy a 1080p tv anymore, they are all 4K. I’m sure the numbers are low because obviously there are millions of poor gamers who can’t afford anything more than what they have.

Other Developers manage to fix the UI and or someone mods it.

To be fair the game plays fine in 1440p and once you get past the options menu, the game is fine. I thought the whole UI was going to be bad and it wasn’t. Which again makes my point if the in-game UI is fine at 4K, then they can fix the options menu. I’m good now though.

funny i just wrote about this in a discussion in diablo forum. Fix your ui and update the graphics a bit so i can go to diablo forums and say how this is better. Thanks.

been palying it on 4K since 2016.

never complained once.

some people simply forget what humility, humble, and appreciation ares.

entitlement tho they sure haven't.

OP clearly did not read through the thread, or he would have missed the parts about there being only two developers, neither of whom is lazy, and that it's a deeply embedded technical problem that would require nothing less than modifying the game engine itself to accommodate a request for which a strong business case does not exist at the moment. How does the workaround go from being acceptable to the developer being lazy happen all in the span of 12 hours? Just incredible.

Well that didn’t stop the lazy dev from throwing out the old lame argument of only 3 percent of gamers having 4K. Which leads me to believe he is just full of it. Not my first rodeo with this issue. Stellaris has the same problem with lazy developers. Developer said only 3 percent install base and that the game couldn’t technically do it. Luckily in that game someone fixed the UI with a mod. So, the excuse of technically not being able to do it is just a lie.

If his argument of being a “technical” issue was true, he would have lead with that. You might be nice enough to believe that, but it’s not true at all. They could address the UI issue but they don’t want to. The UI is fine in game, which is all you need to know.

Those of us that 4K game know that windows has built in scaling for high DPI displays that we often have to use for option menus.. Which is the only problem with Grimm Dawn has. It would be simple enough for the lazy developers to allow that scaling for the options menu since it obviously isn’t part of the game, because the game scaling is fine.

I mean why should developers make games for 4K since only 3 percent of all gamers have 4K /s

Like I noted above, I’m playing at 1440p with zero issues, and I’m perfectly happy with that. After initially seeing the options screen I thought the whole game would have a broken UI. And, once I’m familiar with the game and don’t need the UI or other tips I can just bump it up to 4K and I’ll be fine. I’m just not going to listen to some BS from a developer when he is lying through his teeth.

allow me to destroy your entire argumentation.

you :

- have a very interesting definition for "lazy"

accoridng to the definition : lazy /lā′zē/

adjective
Not willing to work or be energetic.

seeing how a 2016 game which had , 2 expansions with a third coming in this year, continuous bugfixes and free content delivery, + DLC and 2 support pack all along the years since 2016... yeah that's a negative for "not willing to work".

- convinced me so far and probably not just me, that you have no knowledge how a monitor render pixels.
i'll conced i'm 100% using the same argumentation as you here,... assuming BS that is., you'll impress me if you know how a screen display and screen rendering work... surely you would have made money in the industry better than anyone and busy enjoying it, instead of ranting on a steam forum, right ? i bet you could also fix it for your games, neat!

- when you say "those of us that 4K game"
Please , even i' mnot english native, but for the sake of those who game in 4K, use the correct spelling you meant here so "we" do not get associated with your claim ... it's "Me, my and myself" you were looking for.

- if you were "perfectly fine" with 1k4p resolution and "happy" you wouldn't have made this thread to begin with. judgign by the wall of BS you wrote down so far, that is nothing born of a productive thoughs process, but a simple rant. move on... you have your answers already.

i could keep going on, but right now, replying to you is beyond an act of charity, and my post alone here has filled my entire year of Benevolent actions.
