Is EOR considered a "default attack"?
Can it trigger smite or shattering smash? I wouldn't think so. Acts like a channel spell but is governed by attack speed. I seem to be running out of useful places to put skill points and I'm only level 80. Maybe more vires might and volcanic stride for more fire damage. Is a templar and supposed to be an elemental / retaliation build mostly. Using Dawnshard chest and eventually shoulders too which supports both of those. This was the idea. Damage is mediocre at the moment but tanky as a wrecking ball. I do like that ascended casque and scarab carapace for Maiven sphere support. And Kymon blade.

it's a channeling skill. WPS skills like smite\reaping strike\markovian's advantage etc, need a default attack to trigger off of, so cadence\savagery\righteous fervor will benefit but not EoR. Attack speed does indeed increase the amount of damage 'ticks' per second so you do want attack speed at 200% if you can manage it. There's a ton of MI and legendary support for it to suit any flavor of damage you end up doing, so stick with it, it's great!

Thanks. That's what I thought. Think I'll stick with ascension, rebuke and haven since I'm using a shield. I think those will be good support and damage skills.
