I really wish it had WASD.
You can use a controller, right? Game works fine with it, or so I've read. I just ordered an Azeron (this is a keypad with an analog stick, to clear up some confusion) last night and was thinking to myself "maybe it works with this game and I'll finally be able to enjoy it." Sadly, you can't use both controller and m&kb inputs at once, so the 360 degree movement doesn't work on it. That would be fine if there was WASD, but there sadly isn't that either.

I could just git gud and learn to click to move, like everyone else. However, it bugs me. If you misclick an enemy, you end up just moving. If you could attack move like in League, it would be less annoying to me, but there isn't that either. How do you guys deal with it?

Playing with the mouse like the other games of this genre, there is no need for WASD.

i'm not sure what your problem is exactly... why would you use controller and m&k at the same time?

wasd is for top down shooters... grim dawn is an arpg... you click with mouse. or use gamepad.

i'm confused :D i wish i could help you...

unsure what this means exactly as i don't play league, but GD has attack move
also worth to note, you don't actually have to "click move" as such in Grim Dawn. There are 2 aspects to this, one is "clicking" in the sense you just hold down the LMB, you don't have to constantly click it. The other is you don't have to use the mouse buttons like at all, although it will be easier on some skills.
You can assign move to ex W, hold that down and your char will move in whatever direction the cursor is pointed. You can also just not use "clicky" attack skills on mouse buttons and have them on keyboard/hotbar. And i think there is even a keybind to interact with objects including NPCs? which means you'd basically never have to click at all if you so wished(i think?)
In general i think the most overlooked aspect is simply just the hold down LMB/not letting it go to click on every move and every attack (tho suppose assigning move to a keybind is probably also somewhat overlooked)

Azeron is a keypad that has an analog stick that simulates WASD, or can use 360 degree movement if the game supports controllers as well as keyboard and mouse at the same time.

I just bound movement to left click and basic attack to right. I shift click slightly out of range of the enemy, so my attack goes off as they get in range. Guess that's the best I'll get.

I only knew about it because I saw it advertised years ago on Youtube. I finally decided to order one last night.

This type of game does NOT need WASD at all.

Why?

The devs do not want to balance this game around the possibility of strafing. It's not that it would be impossible to implement, but rather a deliberate design decision.

You can do it with a controller already, can't you?

Not with the way controllers are implemented in this game.

which ones?

Magicka and The Ascent are twin stick. 9 parchments is also twin stick. these are technically not a part of this genre.

I've been playing on my steam deck, and the controller layout it sets up works extremely well, I don't know if it's achievable on xbox controllers, but you should probably look into using a controller.
