Slow experience gain
I can't be the only one to think that leveling takes forever in this game right? The early levels were fast enough but now when i'm around 50 hours into the game at level 60 it's starting to get really slow.

Even with two pieces of equipment giving me 5% more exp it just takes forever to gain a single level, if you compare it to Path of Exile i'd get 2-3 levels for every level in GD.

Not to mention that it just feels like a massive drag because there's barely any character progression.

Post level 50, the majority of XP comes from Quests.

Also, given the cap is level 85 the progression is supposed to slow down:

Rough level spread:

Normal / Veteran: 1-50
Elite: 50-70
Ultimate: 70-85

Still doesn't make any sense to why they would intentionally make the game feel sluggish, just went through an entire area killing 2 special mini-bosses plus a story boss and i didn't even get 1/10th of my bar filled.

An area with enemies 3-5 levels higher than me.

I have got to agree with you here at this point. I got a level 61 pyromancer/occultist and it took me like 3 days to up 3 levels.

If I play on veteran I don't get any drops, and the xp gain is slow. If you play on Elite you really got to be carefull. I've seen a video of a youtube guy that was showing off with a level 72 character on elite at devil's crossing. How the hell did he got to level 72 at the beginning of Elite's quests is another question.

To be honest, i think he just used GDTH trainer. People claiming they have several characters at level 85 should either have couple of hunders of hours on record before they speak.

EA was 6 years long, with level 50 > 60 cap lasting 6+ months.

I have a character level 75 who is still in Elite due to this: entered elite @ level 66 or so. A character started just after going gold is only level 60ish in Elite (almost to Homestead).

As previously stated: Quests are 90% of your XP.

Pro tip: quest rewards are modded by +% XP, so you can wear a set for max +%xp (I had +17% I think?) and then swap out once you've handed in quests.

But yes: a lot of the level 85's are created via third party software.

Having to play for hundreds of hours just to reach 85 pretty much forces you to stay with one character if you ever want to get to the end game content.

Games like these should be faster to finish and level, just so you'll have a reason to do it multiple times.

just do quests , i lvl up from 65 to 75 in 2 days doing act 3 and 4 of ELITE not even ultimate , some quests give like 40k exp ,

if you farm bounties for a faction u will take easily 2-3 lvl until you'r revered , (just rush boss/objectiv don't kill trash ) ,

multiplayer give decent exp if your group don't sleep in safezone and farm farm farm

Wait level cap is only 85? Damn, isnt it too low, compared to games with 99cap ( you know which one,D ) or 100+ level caps on some older ARPGs. Considering some instances scale with you progress, it feels too low.

3 days for end tier level ups? Any MMO has lot longer level up times for same level tiers, it can take week even with best boosts to get to late level in certain games, thats a real long haul imo:steamhappy:

You advance the fastest by just doing all quests later on. I think the progression is fine. If you play through all difficulties, clear everything, do all quests which is what i did, you end up being lvl 85 around act 3 in ultimate difficulty. I did some Steps of Torment in between as well, Once for each difficulty playtrough. Just killing monsters later on takes way longer then doing quests.

And how many hours did that take you?

The quest xp / bounties are scaled, so: Doing those means you level at exactly the same rate (discounting monster XP).

This is basic maths.

My character got 85 after about 100 hours of game play. I didn't hurry though and cleared everything in all difficulties. If you rush through while still finishing all quests, you'd be way faster me thinks.

Edit:
Also spent a lot of time on desktop/google while game still running. Not sure how they calculate /played in char sheet which might further skew my character sheet playtime.

You're not really understanding this basic math concept.

If you just play through normally, doing every quest and raising faction as intended (i.e. perhaps honoured in normal/vet, then the rest in elite / ultimate) it takes the same amount of time for each difficulty level.

The fact you're gaining 50 levels in normal/vet, then 20, then 15 doesn't alter the time taken at all.

In fact, due to gear, Elite will probably take you less time than Normal/Vet.

So, if normal/vet takes about 30 hrs, level 85 will probably clock in at around 75-85 hrs.

Do you need a link to explain how to plot a curve? Or how scaling works?

p.s.

50 hrs to get level 60 is slow, showing it's your first run through.

Once you start supplying gear to 2ndary characters, you'll find it much much quicker. Good gear = less time taken, which is kinda the point to aRPGs.
