Cannot reclaim mastery points...
Really? I was having the best time in this game until I apparently screwed up my character just because I wanted to try out a new ability (which in order to unlock needed to spend points into mastery first), and now I can't reclaim those points? I didn't know that! For what reason can I not reclaim those points? It's as if it's set up to accidentally screw up your character. Is there no way to reload an older save or respec in any other way in-game?

EDIT: This topic seems to have caused a few fanboys to gather (surprise!). Not being able to reclaim mastery points when you can reclaim all other points, and atop of that not being given a warning about it, is a bad design choice; your arguments in a attempt to defend it have so far been pretty futile. It is cowardly to claim that 20 hours of playtime or not having reached above level 50 is too soon to complain about this issue, as if how you spend your skillpoints means nothing throughout the game until a certain point; the issue is not solved just because you might need those points later in the game (and I cannot emphazise the word "might" enough), the issue is that I needed those points now. You should not be forced to restart the game with a new character because of something like this; luckily, I did not waste many points to this so I can still continue playing on my current character, others may not have been so lucky.

For what it's worth, I love this game. Smh at people acting like I've somehow attacked the game or the developers. Not wasting my time further with this thread.

Mastery spending and dual class choices are set in stone.

That said, if you're complaining about spending too many points in your primary class...

Don't.

Just level up some more - 90% of all builds use at least one skill with 50/50 mastery spent. There's a reason the top tier skills / auras are so good.
Those mastery points provide you stats and you will be needing them anyway. There's no good reason you should respec them. If the new ability you need isn't your thing, you can respec it and put the points in other skills anyway.

Well no, the reason I want back those mastery points is so I can spend them into the skill I originally had and want (before trying out the new ability). That skill did not need these mastery points, and I have now wasted them.

as posters above me already pointed out, masteries are final. You can't do much wrong, unlessm you maxed both masteries first and are now lv 50 with underleveled skills
You'll level up again and get more points soon enough. Again, almost all good builds require you to reach 50 points in both masteries at one point or another.

Well unfortunately this is true. No mastery respec. In a lot of builds u dont need to go full 50/50 and really need skillpoints allocated to specific skills but once u put in mastery points there is no going back. I got burned on that design once and had to restart a char. After that i planned ahead with much more caution.

Feels like a blow to the stomach. Thanks devs...

You see this kind of thing all too common with almost all aRPG games. No resets, no recalls on simple and things that should have been plain and obvious to begin with. I do not understand the logic behind it. Are they saving that specific functionality to be added later as a 'value added service in their expansion pack'? Probably....And eventually all games get their crap together and give you ap roduct after a year or two of waiting with the proper patches and to be purchased expansion packs.

If you could respec masteries, you'd break characters totally.

Since you don't own the game, I guess you're just trolling about the reasons.

You've 16 hrs played.

I doubt you've even a character at level 50, let alone 85.

So what? It's still points wasted for no good reason. Yes I gained some extra stats, but I could have spent the points into skills I need much more. It's not the end of the world, I can still play on my character; it wasnt that many points, but it still feels pretty disappointing.

How exactly would this break characters?

And when you get to level 50, you'll see why we're saying what we're saying.

Second class spending is *far* more important - don't chose a second class without specifically thinking about what you're getting out of it.

It's to do with how the engine handles stats - there's a reason masteries / character points aren't refundable once selected (i.e. after the screen is exited).
