Better than other hack and slash?
Why I love hack and slash they do get repetitive and stale after a while. I hear great things about this game. Does it suffer from it? Is it better than other notable hack and slash (like diablo 3 torchlight, etc, etc..)?

All depends on the type of person you are. I have a few hours in the game. I expect to get a few more at this rate.

It's definitely not better than D3, but possibly better than Torchlight 2. There is nothing new in it, it's a by the numbers dungeon runner game. It does get very repetitive especially because of antiquated combat design of skills being essentially the same regardless of their upgrades. That is where Diablo 3 shines, it's skills have massive differences depending on what rune you use which drastically change the gameplay and you have 6 skills you'll always cycle through.

Torchlight 2 has mods though. I dunno, I guess it depends what art style you like.

If you've played any dungeon runner in the past 15 years, you've played Grim Dawn. Don't expect to see anything new or highly polished. In fact melee animations are pretty terrible :steamsad:

It isn't :/ It tries to hide behind diveristy and freedom of build, but if you don't have extremely specific build set ups, even on normal or vet good luck EVER beating the last two bosses in the game. A build that could be perfectly fun and work perfectly fine for 99% of the playthrough will completely fall through and ♥♥♥♥ on your face as you can no longer progress.

You can try and respec at this point, but seeing as you can't ever take things like your mastery points back, if you've had the unfortunate to 'over invest' or choose the wrong class combo..you might as well re-roll.

Not to mention you can't duel wield without specific gear or a specific class.

you can't duel wield pistols without very specific gear

so that is more options out the window.

This game could've been fun. Then it decided to just ♥♥♥♥ itself for no reason.

Most games of this genre tend to get repetitive sooner or later. If you don't like that sort of "mindless slaughter" and the loot hunt they might just not be your cup of tea? That said, Grim Dawn varies things up a bit by having actual secrets you can find (like breakable walls that unveil hidden passages) and some choice-and-consequence-type quests.

Personally, I'm enjoying it a lot more than D3 and Torchlight 2 both aesthetically and in terms of gameplay.

diablo 3 is really bad. no thought required when planning out your character, totally mindless from levels 1-60 on the hardest available difficulty, and just really boring. grim dawn is maybe a little bit harder on veteran, and i'm at least occasionally using potions (as opposed to never in d3's first 60 levels). where grim dawn shines is in the way you build your character, and the many options available to the player. just nice seeing things eventually come together, instead of how it's just handed to you in d3.
my arpg rankings
d2>d1>grim>torchlight2>torchlight>tq>poe>d3>divine divinity(v boring)

It's not better and is essentially another hack and slash, however it does it well!

There's so much wrong with what you just said that it's mindboggling.

There is no 'wrong class' combo.

And would specifically have to go out of your way to build a character that is unable to beat the game in veteran. And normal is beatable even if you do that.

It's blizzard sending over ther agents to give their "op" -- long story short, they wish D3 was more like this. My heart goes out to them.

So if I enjoy D3 and I enjoy also GD than I am blizzard's agent? Cool, this is a well paid job.

On Topic: GD is the old school type of Arpg, like D2, TQ.

No it's not, D2 makes GD look like child's play.

There is a lot to do in this game:

* Story Quests (where your decisions have impact!)
* Bounty Quests
* Old School Rep Grinding by killing mobs
* Exploration/Finding Secret Hidden Areas with Treasure
* Crafting
* Great Character Build Customization (much better than Diablo 3)
* 4 Difficulties + Hardcore
* Loot, lots of loot
* And probably so much more that I've not seen yet (Max lvl 42)
