Stuck on mission , can no longer progress the game.

im stuck doing the secret of the lost mission, where i have to aquire the archive of fates.
ive killed the guy i need to but he did not drop the item i need so i cannot make the skeleton key i need.
is this a bug, anyone else had this problem. and is there a fix work round for this, as i can no longer progress the main quest line, all i can do now is bountys ??

Try to kill him agaim. The NPC should spawn in the room to give you the key and recipe. Yea its bug some folks get once in awhile.

i tried going back in there is nothing in there, as first time i cleared it out.
i may try again now as its over 24 hours since i last played maybe a bit of luck this time...

Skeleton key isnt needed for main story line. As for bug no idea

A Skeleton Key is required to complete this quest as the target is past the gates, but I don't know what you mean by "killed the guy I need to but he did not drop the item I need so I cannot make the skeleton key".

There are no bugs related to this quest.

he should drop archive of fates, in turn i need to take this to anasteria in fort ikon she will then make the skeleton key, but alas he dont drop item in steps of torment. ive been in twice but no drop. the gates are behind him once youve killed him.

The gate is behind Grand Priest Zarthuzellan, you need to make a key and open the gate. The Shade of Elnadrin is who you need to kill on level 4 of the Steps of Torment to get the Archive of Fates Untold.

Anasteria does not make the Skeleton key. The key is earned through a quest in Old Arkovia.
Zarthuzellan does not drop the Archive.

Think you've misread the quest.

Well I am doing the mission. I made a skeleton key. I killed Zartuzellan. I used the skellie key to get past the gate in the room with Zartuzellan. This gate will not open if you don't have the key. Fine, I opened it. The next area is very small. Little son-om-a-♥♥♥♥♥ skellie guy crawled out of the bone piles with minions in that little area right past the skeleton key gate. I thought he should drop the tome - he didn't. Maybe he was reading it. I don't know. Jesus Christ! So that's probably not the guy or he was reading the tome and it disappeared. Skellies are annoying but they seem to have become more educated than the ones in Diablo II because they have learned how to bleed now since I seem to be doing a lot of bleed damage to them. Maybe that's the reason. Anasterina is a skellie too so they are probably pulling my leg. But no. You have to keep goin. Poison all the ghosts that attack you along the way. You can pee on them, whatever. Their feelings get hurt and they scream themselves out of existance. In the next level which I am pretty sure level 4 "Suffering" - they guy with the tome is at that level. Shade of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or something like that. He will drop the tome and he will be marked with one of those little stars on your map. All I know is I didn't care about doing that quest because of the skellie key and I went back much later when I was lvl 71. That tome guy was lvl 64 and had a decent amount of HP.

A bit dated discussion, but I just did a run through steps of torment. I cleared every room and reached the point where the boss spawns. Killed the boss, got the enterance to the treasure room after the battle, opened all the chests and there's no Archive of Fates. Archive did not drop from the boss, or from the chests. I ran through the levels once more to see if there's a star symbol anywhere on the map. Then I went to teleport back on ground through the stone in the last room, to see if that somehow spawns the archive, and now I need another skeleton key as the Archive was never dropped.

I think that there's a fair chance that there's a bug in that quest. I cleared every room, and killed every enemy encountered.

The archive drops from a mob on the first floor after you opened the gates with the key.

the guy who drops it is called shard of eldarin or somehing like that. he has a boss star above his head and several minions around him. he is located in lvl 4 with two possible spawnpoints. never encountered a bug with this quest, so maybe try to verify your gamefiles.

I killed them as well but did not get a drop

Maybe I'll try that and do it once more

I verified the game files (no errors) and did the run again. Now I got the guy from the 2nd floor and was able to get the archives.
