there are better
I hope crate never changes their ways and gets crappy like some other unmentioned companies.
I am also glad they are not cranking out title after title i like to have 10 years or so to enjoy a game, at the very least 5.
If your a company cranking out new game quicker than every 5 years chances are I am going to ignore you. Tired buying crap
GD does a lot right but there are major QoL things that are overlooked that could make it so much better. I think theres probably a few level scaling adjustments that could be made too, and gear level requirement scaling adjustments.
If I were to rank:
Moment to Moment gameplay: D4
Itemization: POE (GD and Last Epoch are close).
Build variety: POE (GD close, LE not far off)
Leveling: POE (Simply because its quick. For me, 50-60 hours before 'endgame' is a bit much D4/GD)
Crafting: Last Epoch (deterministic, love it).
Endgame: POE or LE.
Graphics: D4
Audio: D4
I dont know, I think GD is great. Totally surprised with it. And it has an odd niche to it that the other games don't share because its more of a play-through ARPG where youre grinding out factions and what not. I personally dont enjoy POE anymore so GD is definitely in a top 3 or top 2 for me.
Its this simple. If Crate ever becomes big enough to become a corporation or sell out to a corporation with public stock and investors it's all over. That's when games stop becoming a labor of love and start becoming a trash corporate dollar driven spendfest ala current day Blizzard.
D2, well, I have probably over 10000 in this game ( played since 2006). This masterpiece is a foundation for every other arpgs out there. I'm a big fan of Diablo and Blizz ONLY because of D2. D3 and D4 completely destroyed my hope in this garbage company, especially D4. I did play around 17 seasons of D3 too and the game is decent.
Torchlight 2 might be one of the best out of them all. Not T3 tho, that game is trash.
Last Epoch is absolutely awesome and I have like 400 hrs in it already, Game still needs some optimization here and there.
Wolcen is good too but end game is bland. Too many builds that have the same play style.
Titan Quest, oh man, If I can rank 3 best ARPGs, TQ might be in it. Grim Dawn learns alot from TQ, especially the ability of picking 2 classes at the same time, I know its graphic is outdated, but the gameplay, build diversity and loot system is on point. Farming everything in that game actually feel satisfied.
Grim Dawn learns a lot from TQ and from others like D2 or Torchlight too. Crate devs are super active and support this game and that itself makes the game to be one of the best, if not the best out of them all.
P/s: I have high hope for Titan Quest 2 and POE2 too. I watched the gameplay of mercenary in POE2 yesterday and it is insane on what you can do. It is like a mix of COD and POE lol, you can throw grenades out and instead of waiting for them to explode, you can shoot them and make them explode earlier, or instead of shooting ice bullet to enemies, you can shoot it on the ground to make them slower by stepping on it.
