When trying to save the directory settings, the error "error while saving the settings" appears.

This is not where your saves are. FIrst you should go to the game main menu - options - network. There you'll find an option to download your savefiled from the cloudsave. That's where they opriginally are. Then go to Steam. In your games list rightclick Grim Dawn - Properties. In the general section you'll find an option whether to keep your gamesave on the cloud or on your disk. Disable the cloudsave. After that your savefiles will always be in Documents - my games - Grim Dawn - save. Have fun!

I did this, but I still get the error.
Ok, I solved the problem.
I removed the Read Only attribute from the folder (C:\Users\Name\GDStash) and I was able to save the settings.
If so, the folder is hidden.

If you'd like to keep Cloudsaves on and still use GDStash, you can use the "download cloud saves" from the game's network options, edit the local saves, then in the network options click "Delete cloud saves", when you go back to the main menu it will say "no cloud saves detected, would you like to overwrite with local saves" click "yes" and your edited saves from Local will load back into the menu.

I like having cloud saves on to avoid losing everything in the event of total computer failure. Unlikely to happen, but devastating when it does.

Yes, thanks, I already figured it out.

This didn't work for me.
You can have multiple saved stashes and manually swap them with game running. FYI because many still don't know you don't have to trust a third party editing program simply for more inventory space.
