And also inquisitor. He also has a skill that allows him to shoot with high elemental damage. They pair nicely into a Purifier class. And if you want to choose between dual wield and two-handed, I say go with dual-wield. Faster fire rate and much flashier.
Another option is using Soldier which should also be quite straightforward. With Soldier/Demolitionist/Inquisitor you have 3 different combinations, so pick what feels like a best fit for you.
Of course there are many more viable combinations and builds if you want to experiment, but I would wait with that until you are a bit more familiar with skills and items in game, as some of the might be very gear dependent and therefore hard to build unless you know what you are looking for.

Another question to save me making another thread.
How do you avoid to be surrounded by enemies while attacking? You have backpedal and kite them all the time?
And, uh, this game is notorious for every build ending up as a tank. You can kite a bit, but don't expect to play a glass cannon in this game. Every build needs resists, hp, DA, some sustain. Or you'll end up as one of those whiners complaining about getting 1-shot all the time.
You can focus on primary weapon skills/passives, you can focus on thrown skills (Molotovs, grenades,...etc), you can focus on Marks/sigils you put on the ground, or you can do a mix of all of them.
You also have the choice to focus on all types of ranged elemental damages, like fire, poison, lighting, Cold, Chaos,...etc. So you have all kinds of freedom just with this class combination and I'm sure the are much more fun ranged classes to build.
Only thing I dont like is that Arcanist, Nightblade and some others dont got them basic attack skills so you can truly go crazy.
Imagine shooting someone so hard knifes erupt and bleed the foe hard.
Of course, you'll still need to stay alive for boss fights, but it's much easier to avoid one enemy than many. And Arcanist has great tools for boss fights especially for newer players.
Shaman, rifle, max out Primal Strike, Torrent, Storm Surge, and Feral Hunger.
Don't take Thunderous Strike. Yes, you deal with the cool down by not taking it, but the extra damage is well worth it.
