It has a collection of builds you can follow.
It has a build calculator where you can theorycraft your own builds. Some people say they play Grimtools more than they play Grim Dawn itself)
As for the mechanics... don't know, honestly. I tried to fiture out stuff myself and what I didn't understand I figues out by analyzing how the builds work

Crate forum is your best source of information in terms of game info, outside making new posts and asking. Some stuff on the wiki is old/out of date or just mechanically incorrect, some stuff on reddit is incorrect because old/outdated or incorrect info gets perpetuated/repeated (sometimes just blindly quoted from the wiki).
In general if you make a new thread on steam (or official grim dawn forum) to ask a question about GD you get an answer in decent time, even if it's asked before/posted in a thread elsewhere -people are in general pretty willing to assist with GD game info imo.

Some of those builds and pointers/metrics mark will still have som validity in what it might suggest of a build, but there is also a bunch of caveats applied that isn't visible just from the list format itself.
I specifically said that some builds are outdated :) And it's clearly visible because each one has a patch version when the build was created.
The patch nr of a build is not really the biggest caveat (even tho potentially significant too),
but the format or rather the sheet itself not showing the actual build caveats outside of age/not factoring newer patches, the list being abandoned because the format was skewed but also ofc the list itself not being maintained at all anymore.
The trouble with the ETE sheet was that certain archetypes not only got a default better better score because of cheese potential, but also it was very reliant on piloting/player experience to achieve those ratings in the first place, making it not really a "great" "avg" aggregate if you will, but more so potentially less so for beginner/newcomer potential.
Basically the list sorta takes a bunch of stuff "out of context" if you will, which turned out to be kinda important depending on your goal/player aims.
whatever you read in guides will be somewhat outdated with the new changes coming tomorrow. so don't judge the book by other peoples covers fully.
the game is solid. mass multi-currency is not a big problem in this game. there is no player trading/economy as far i know(maybe people privately trading items?...not sure why anyone would bother.... the importance of trading unless you are in a coop game and someone got a drop you could use is basically zero tho.)
This game isnt a massive mmorpg style game like d3 or poe filled with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cash stores and gatcha boxes.
Build guides are going to be mostly wrong come tomorrow. You might wanna wait on that. This isnt a competitive arpg. So it barely matters up to the point where you made a crappy character by simply not reading anything at all on the abilities and just picked random ones with your eyes closed..... everything is highly descriptive and easy to figure out.
I didn't realize tomorrow's patch had significant balance changes, i guess i can just not follow a guide and make a scuffed char first, if it bothers me i can just follow a guide later.
Thanks once again!
i'd almost guess Oneshot didnt' actually try 1.2 playtest based on the comment...
outside 2½ very specific fights that finally got changed more back in line with original dev intent, dare i say 1.2 saw so much powercreep and enemy dmg dial backs 9.8 is in general actually harder/more threatening than 1.2, with the sole exception being the Sunder/Evade mechanic, and the aforementioned 2½ special unique fights (which devs never intended to as easy as they had become)
Just gonna search around for some beginner builds then.
It's an adjustment for sure if having played "non-Sunder" GD vs to then now needing to treat certain enemy attacks/debuffs with more respect, but even then there are ways, but in general isn't hard to counter with the new evade.
Outside getting Sundered most enemy dmg was kinda dialed back down to where i died more when testing comparisons on 9.8 vs playing 1.2 😅, hence why i say outside Sunder 1.2 is actually a bit easier in regular content because "powercreep".
