Yeah sure, there will probably be some amount of people complaining about the new changes, but it will probably be way easier get used to them than juggling 2 versions of the game all the time.
We can look back at Skyrim to see that exactly this has happened, people swore that Skyrim LE is the only true Skyrim, when Skyrim SE released, but nowadays most people have moved to Skyrim SE (it's currently approximately 1:10 ratio), then the similar thing happened with Skyrim 1.6, where people swore they are never going to upgrade, because, surprise Skyrim 1.5 is the only true Skyrim, but based on stats related to popular mod downloads, over 50% already upgraded from 1.5.x to 1.6.x and it's slowly growing and older version once again slowly fades into oblivion.
Too many improvements on 1.2 not to play this version.
