Edit: actually, let's balance things out. LE is trash because it's always online.
Thanks for the feedback. I ended up getting LE, but I'm planning to get the definitive edition of GD when it inevitably goes on sale, especially with the new expansion coming out.
At this point in time, and with a new expansion coming next year, it simply doesn't get better than GD when it comes to ARPGs.
i am sorry but that is plain wrong.
last epoch has the same or similiar skill tree like grim dawn, only that the skills of last epoch each have their own skill tree with unique modifiers and build changing stuff. and then on top of THAT are coming all the loot which can further add to or even change the skills.
grim dawn is nice and all and its a good concept of mixing two classes but you also kinda can do that with last epoch by mixing up traits and skills from several mastery classes in the game.
so no...not just fancier but also quite a lot of depth.
well from what i can tell the game mechanics are more engaging with every skill having their own skill tree and the end game is vastly superior to grim dawn.
you being able to buy a pet which does nothing or another cape means jack.
i am fed up with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the forums not understanding that people don't want to get fired so they get more work instead. usually at this point the artist would get fired and would have to look for other jobs. in the current system the game devs of most companies employ is developing some arts or skins to sell extra because guess what those artist want to get paid.
i never bought a skin in any ARPG and still have my fun. if you cry for a little extra paid content in a live service game then well ... enjoy your old ARPG and continue living in a cave lol.
That being said, I left because the game seemed too focused on end-game, the same disease that I discovered with PoE. Too many one-shot mechanics to suit my taste. So far in GD, with (3) characters in Ultimate (highest at L80), I have not suffered any one-shots or impossible tasks...yet. A few annoying ones to be sure (never going back to Port Valbury), but overall it's been amazing.
While I do like the classes and skills, the devs can't balance the power creep of the masteries, just look at how much better runemaster is over sorcerer.
Beyond that, the game is never going to stop being always online, they're clearly aiming to turn it into a GaaS, and they've received financing from Tencent.
its called self control.
GD blows LE out of the water by just having mod support. content flow is continuous as long as modders continue to create.
GD's gear also matters where LE's does not.
