what are boss fights like?
I was happily playing Grim Dawn until i saw a youtube video where the guy said the boss fights are simple and literally just bullet sponges with zero thinking. Is this true?

I really like the game but i guess hearing that makes you think it never builds up to anything better?

not exactly. World Mini Bosses maybe.. But there is a boss at the beginning. cant remember his name, 1 of the last 1's before the next area, his skills take out chunks of health, and require a bit of maneuvering.. Also remember, Everyone is different.. Just play and have fun come to your own conclusion:104::steamhappy:

ah ok ill play up until there to see what its like.
I would but i also dont want to waste time and be disappointed after many hours.

thanks
The first boss in Act 1 has some attacks that requires thinking and timing like hidden seals that can stun you, a "shotgun' like attack that deals tons of damage and a AOE effect that can ruin your day.

"boss fights are simple and literally just bullet sponges with zero thinking'

The youtuber didn't fought Grava'Thul, the Voiddrinker. This Nemesis Boss will one shot you with one of his attacks if you're not carefull
player: boss fights requires 0 thinking
also players: repeatedly complaints and whines about bosses being too hard (sometimes to much so they get nerfed)
:claugH:
Like most things when reduced to a youtube one-liner, the real answer is "it depends."

Getting there takes no time at all really.. but i also know the beginning quite well so theres that too lol
In Normal mode.
All of the bosses require some sort of thought when fighting them.
For me, the two most significant bosses you'll run into in ACT.1 are Salazar and Gutworm.

nice ill give it a try thanks. I much prefer this to poe and diablo atm. something about the atmosphere. I guess it feel more like a world than just some rooms and hallway
I think what they mean, is that this game does not have MMO style bosses. Its all about stats. So if you are strong enough, you kinda just stand there swinging away at em. Occasionally you have to move out of a ground AOE effect that they throw down. But it's not like big red radiuses that you have to avoid all the time. The game is all about stats. So if you have the resists, the armor, the sustain, you can just stand there facetanking most of em the whole time. It does highly depend on your build and which boss it is, as far as how alert you have to be to avoid attacks.

Like if you play veteran, you will probably have to actually dodge the act1 boss's attacks. The Warden can hurt a lot on his second phase, so if you aren't twinked out, or doing a very good early game build, it will probably go like; facetank phase1. Phase 2, you back up when he winds up to do his aoe stomp, hit him, hit him, now dodge sideways while he does his shotgun projectiles, because facetanking those will hurt like hell, then hit him, hit him, tank the melee attack, get stunned, back up to just barely dodge his next aoe stomp, hit him, hit him, back up and run sideways again to dodge projectiles, hit him, dodge the stun this time, hit him, back up to avoid aoe stomp, hit him, hit him, dodge the projectiles, kill him.

But if you are a veteran, you can probably facetank all bosses mindlessly with twinked out gear, until you get to end game, and even then, if you go the tank build route, you'll still be able to facetank most of em most of the time. Seems almost all bosses have at least 1 move that'll make you move though.

you run over them like train.
If you're expecting a Dark Souls style boss fight with telegraphed moves and combos that need to be dodged then no, Grim Dawn doesnt have that. For the most part they are just bullet sponges. Some bosses have attacks that should be dodged or ground effects that you shouldnt stand in unless you want to make your life harder.
The first playthrough, going in below level 25 because I didn't know any better, Salazar ate my face.
