Should you save NPCs with Riftgates or not?
I've noticed when I rescue NPCs I have the option of telling them they are free to go (because I killed the bad guys) or offering to make a riftgate for them.

Do these two choices result in different outcomes?

In most cases, the results are different.

In what way? Is there any reason I *wouldn't* want to save an NPC with a riftgate? I tried it on one dude, and he just said he'd be heading out once he had rested. Does this mean he won't come to Devil's Crossing whereas otherwise he would?

good question. I just always chose the riftgate. I guees my next character will not open riftgates and I will see if they make it to devils crossing or not. :FlashFreeze:
Spoiler :
In most cases, there are rewards for helping those people. and they lives, of course.
But there's an instance where a demon disguise itself as a rescueee and have you riftgated it to a community nearby

I have tried most of the alternate quest routes. Only a few seem to vary for rewards, otherwise it is just lore.

Examples:
-Certain guy in town gives you a key to a dungeon for keeping his secret. If you kill him, you can still get the key off a mob near the dungeon (low drop rate).
-Blacksmith quest: changes the bonus for each guy, one guy is magic bonus, the other is physical (or something).
-Most "open rift gate" just provides additional dialog like "thanks for helping us!"
-A few (I think) might give a reward like a item, or like the 'cook' giving you food. Ie. Saving the people around the lake from the gang, or stopping an npc from burning his family.
-The faction questlines have some fun choices which will affect the storyline. Ie. For the outlaws faction (witch in fort ikon), if you spare the witch, you unlock the outlaws+quests+store, if you kill her, you unlock a dungeon.

Low is... definitely an understatement.

It's just a little girl alone in a cave, just keep questioning her and doubting her story and she will eventually change and attack you.
