DW pistols
Can someone explain the process of how these fire? Are they treated as separate weapons? Do they have a chance of attacking? I just find it weird that firing two pistols isn't consistent. One will fire consistently, but other fires sporadically.

Just use them as a normal weapons. They'll fire both at once.

Each pistol has its own attack speed. Plus any proc skills that trigger take X time to happen and can also change the cadence.
Edit: In some cases, proc skills only trigger from main hand or off hand, not both.

IF you had two pistols with identical attack speed, and no proc skills to interfere with the rhythm, they should fire in perfect cadence.

Ignore the above comment, Sin doesn't know what they're talking about. No, the pistols don't have different attack speeds that affect things; no, it doesn't cycle each pistol differently and occasionally sync up; no, WPS won't change the cadence; and no, using two pistols with the same attack speed won't make you use both every time.

To the best of my understanding (which could be wrong, but is at least closer to what actually happens), every time you attack there's a chance for either pistol to attack. If one attacks and the other doesn't, then you attack with that pistol; if neither attacks, then you just use the main hand pistol, since you're guaranteed to attack; and there's also a chance that both pistols attack together. Also, IIRC, WPS will use both pistols every time.

This makes the most sense from what I've seen. Not exactly what I expected, which is actually disappointing. I was hoping for more consistency (right, left, right, left) alternating at their individual attack speed (or at least an average attack speed).

A bit more specifically, when you make an "default weapon attack" (or are using a skill that works as one like Fire Strike or Savagery), first it determines whether or not you activate one of your "Weapon Pool Skills" (WPS are skills like Bursting Rounds, Chilling Rounds, and Storm Spread) If one of them activates, then whatever that skill calls for it does.

If no WPS activates, then it becomes a "Normal Attack" For normal attacks, when dual wielding, there is a 25% chance to attack with the left weapon, 25% chance to attack with the right, and 50% with both.

I think your left side is an offhand weapon. I know you can get stats saying things like an increased percentage to attack with offhand... unless I am tripping and thinking of some other game. Dual wield pistols is most fun in game in my opinion....go Purifier build and don't look back :) Yeah... this game has a lot to do with PROCS... just when are the procs firing or going off? I dunno... I'm a casual player... not into theory crafting like the pro's.... but you just have to keep an eye out for what gear stats are saying... read them carefully

Yeah, I finally read an explanation on that last night. It's a weird mechanic for dual wielding.

I did make a purifier. It was the first class I put on hold while I try another. Made a melee DW (dervish), although same mechanics, I'm having a bit more fun/easier time killing things. I'll probably come back to it.
