What off-hand to use with pistol wielding Demolitionist?

I play a ranged demolitionist and I prefer pistols. I would like to read suggestions on what to equip on my off-hand OTHER than another pistol. I do not wish to dual wield pistols. For the time being I have a shield, but I am not sure it is as effective as I would like.

Caster off hand for damage, shield for survival. It's pretty much as simple as that, though there are always exceptions to the rules. What type of damage are you dealing? What skills are you using? Are you struggling to stay alive or are you finding your clear speed lacking? I personally prefer dual pistols over single pistol, but I have found that I like the power a caster off hand gives better than a shield when using just one.

Dual pistols all the way at first it looks underwhelming but when you start linking your base attack to on hit/crit devotions, factor in weapon passives and increase your attack speed it gets insane how fast you can nuke everything.

If you insist on going 1 pistol there is a set oathbreaker which has a shield and pistol its not bad, but probably overall a caster offhand would be better. Although personally Id go rifle if your not using dual pistols.
