Also it seems unlike most RPGs, the DoT is not applied by a chance on your elemental attacks and you actually need a skill that actually states it applies electrocute damage, like storm touched for the shaman.
I also had a quick noob question, does anybody actually use shields in the game? seems like the caster offhands have much better stats even for a fighter, my bank has magic shield drops cluttering it, my thinking was save the highest statted stuff for future characters but it's completely full now
Explains most combat mechanics well
Shields are the definitive defensive option for the off-hand. When you are struck by an attack with a shield equipped, you will have a chance to block some of the damage (shields can block any damage type). When this occurs, you will be unable to block again until the shield’s Block Recovery time has expired. This cooldown can be reduced through various skills and equipment.
Some abilities can use the shield when striking, rather than your weapon. In this case, the % Weapon Damage component of the ability will use the shield’s damage rather than your main-hand.
physical = internal trauma
pierce = no DoT
fire = burn
ice = frostburn
lightning = electrocute
acid = poison
vitality = life leech
chaos = no DoT
aether = no Dot
Resistances apply to both parts of a category. For example, fire resistance is applied to burn as well. However, +%Damage does not apply across a category, +%burn and +%fire are separate and only affect their corresponding damage type.
pierce = bleed
oops, forgot bleed xD
I assume : %elemental resistances helps you lower the amount of damage receive from either Burn/frostburn/electrocute (but does not reduce the amount of time those are applied)
If that above is true, you see that pierce resistance has nothing to do with bleed. As bleed has its own resistance.
Also : Vitality (direct damage) -> Vitality decay (DoT)
Life/energy leech are also depedent on their own resistances.
