Help with Spellbinder build. Going for simplicity.
Hey all, I would like some input on my build if you please.

I have linked my character as is via Grim Tools.

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/nZo8G4vN

Some things to note below.

1: I would like to keep that as simple as possible that's why I chose to use AAR as it's basically a left click and melt enemies.

2: I recently reset all my devotion points and I don't know what to choose to get the biggest bang for buck. I used the Imp for sure but I read somewhere that Aether wasn't good on AAR?

3: I'd probably like more buffs maybe? Life on Hit seems good if I can just lay into someone?

The main thing for me is to basically point and shoot. I don't want to have to manage multiple button clicks. I keep my left hand (pinky) on the 6 and my (index) on the 9 for heals. Managing my mirror and siphon souls is easy enough.

What should I spend in devotion to keep this as pure Aether pew pew as possible? I heard you can remove some things and then get others? It seems a bit confusing honestly.

Thanks.

you might want to get Bat added as a triggered skill of your AAR, since it will up the healing and got a trigger rate that's close to the amount of hits that the AAR does offer.

I'll add a link to mine though it can feel heavy in use of the skills like Mark of Torment and Mirror of Ereoctes to stand still while pushing healthbars with the enemy.

It works for most portions of the game and only finds ts troubles on "higher" SR shards on Ultimate or fighting Celestials(Callagadra(the others have been beatable the last time I've attempted them.)).

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/D2pyn8eV

Other Parts are Gear and LV.

One of the Components might not be the best in choice as it's active has been changed a while ago , though that would just lead to more buttons pressed.

Reapspirit is levelled because of the amount of skillpoints I get to reach 17 in it.

If you've got the requirements for a devotion and then remove points out of places that offered points earlier to reach mentioned devotions and have become obsolete those will be able to stay, so you can create a path after having created one.

I use a skilbar for buffing and a bar for fighting.

What devotion would work best with the skills that I have currently do you think?

I´d say Spellbinder is not that great for AetherRay.
Pro: Arcanist Mirror + MarkOfTorment ..sounds amazing at first.. and Aether-debuff
Con: Aether debuff is only close around you. And aside of MoT the Necro has not many benefits. Also no natural heal which enforces SiphonSouls as a basic Heal ;(

Now compare that with MageHunter (+Inquisitor) ..lol it´s just focusing on Fire instead of Aether.. plus Debuff-Aura (100% uptime!) with almost double range^^
AuraOfCensure is nice by itself. But Seal has real value for such a squishy build(!)
And please don´t overlook the Aether Debuff from WordOfPain !!
Plus a nice Heal(!) and ImparedAim, Skill Disruption, Dmg Reduction on targets..

Actually, quite a No-brainer.. esp. if you look at dmg-comparison ;D

-> I would go Calidors Tempest with Spellbinder, that´s where this build is a MONSTER

Well there's no fire damage left on my Aether Ray

What devotion would work best with the skills that I have currently do you think?

I would recommend looking at those I use and consider for yourself if they are suitable for you or not.
try use olextra flash freeze, is really cool.

Okay so I tried your build and it seems to run great aside from the summoning bit which I don't like.

I linked a new build and would like some critiques. I really want to focus on just these skills I think and just need help with proper devotion. ANY thoughts are welcome though.

With this current build on a training dummy UP CLOSE I can pull 207k dps.

Any reason to turn Aether to Chaos?

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/a2Ek81jZ
I'm not sure where that Aether DMG is converted to Chaos.

I personally like Ghoul for the Facetanking and Viper adds more RR in the form of Elemental RR to the build that's why it's been added. I like the Hourglass for the Time Deliation effect and the higher avaliability of Mark of Torment and Mirror of Ereoctes through it.

I personally feel depending on the occasion it's actually dangerous to cast Reapspirit since it interrupts the channeling and by that stops the incoming healing.

I use "Nullification" a lot and debuff myself often with it. Especially in the Shattered realm when I stack 5 and more different Debuffs on the Character and some dots it's super helpfull and with the cooldown below 9 seconds it's often useable.

Honestly I ones had someone else take their time looking at a devotionpath and getting my feedback of I'll play that or I won't and then I switched my prior devotionpath.(My old devotionpath is findeable as a screenshot on my profile.)

The Spear of Heavens falls for more then 500k Damage and has a nice procrate.

And with my Gear, there's no good reason to turn anything that scales on my Aethermodifier to Chaos except it deals at least a multitude times the damage, since the Aethermodifier is that high, or the enemys resistance needs to be high enough for it to actually be countable favorable towards Chaos.

Glad it works well, it's a realy strong character :-)

Don't turn Aether to Chaos on a Spellbinder. You want to go the other way.

I'm not up to speed with the latest on Aether Ray builds but I can offer some general advice:

  • You need to fill in augments to really analyze a build. They make a big difference in the resists/OA/DA math and can let you shuffle around other stuff to make a build more effective.
  • Your HP is 'okay' but with 2300-2500 DA you are going to be really reliant on Mirror and Mark of Torment to keep you alive in dangerous situations. 2600 DA before any buffs is much more survivable, while ~3000 is really comfortable when you can make it there.
  • You shouldn't worry much about Vitality damage - the amount you deal & your damage bonus for it is trivial compared to Aether.
  • You should try to work some "X Reduced" type resistance into your build. The kind that comes from Revenant's Raise the Dead, Manticore's Acid Spray, or Scales of Ulcama's Tip the Scales.
  • I would want more crowd control resists unless you're just running Crucible with the CC buff up all the time.
  • 1 point in each of the Iskandra's line (take it from Disintegration) would give you a good bit more OA and 2% more crit damage (that will apply to more than just AAR). Pumping up your OA even more with Overload (take points from Fabric of Reality, Mental Alacrity, and Devastation overcap) would probably bring great rewards in AAR damage with that ~90% crit damage bonus.
  • Mythical Albrecht's Duality will help convert the rest of your Chaos from the relic proc to Aether, give more OA, more % aether damage, and better elemental resist overcap. You have plenty of cast speed and can make up aether & chaos resist with augments and component changes.

That's about as far as I want to go for now. If you want something really optimized you can probably find some examples of very similar builds on Crate's forums.

True. So then it´s a special build refering to Clairvoyant 100%-conversion.
As far as I know that´s not ideal.. getting high Aether RR is a big task.. even more on range ;D
But the build looks good.. above 2k dmg-modifier.. decent skills. Guess that´s as far as Spellbinder can go^^
MageHunter / Sorcerer could make perfect use of "elemental AAR" .. sadly Necro is weaker and obsolete for that purpose ;(

AAR as pure aether is actually many times more effective than the elemental versions. Its actually very simple to get extremely high RR for aether added to which not many enemies have high resists vs aether anyway.

On that build Gregor posted (I used a similar thing) hes hitting 45% RR comfortably and consistently (its basically permanent) added to which the skill itself does insane damage, far higher than anything in the game and the aether version particularly scales high due to having reckless power and all the other arcanist support. The Necro is purely for health and survival skills, mark of torment is worth picking it for alone, on my version I also used ill omen but didn't bother with devastation as it just wasn't required ever, the screen just melted. It can facetank nemesis mobs easily.

I tried fighting that Calla thing in the desert on Veteran with that build and I got wrecked. I couldn't even cast a spirit because they wouldnt attack him unless I was and I got maybe 3 seconds of AAR.

If that is really true Aether needs a big Nerf..

But somehow I doubt it. Maybe you just underestimate elemental dmg. I guess it does not even perform 1.3x better than a cold AAR build.
I think you like Dmg-types with big numbers (eg: Lightning, Aether,..) , but Performance also includes how much real dmg it does in the end "on Target". And most likely there it will not be x-times higher ;)

I'm well aware of how damage works and how big numbers don't always win. But in this case sorry you are wrong, AAR supported by the clairvoyant set is just the strongest version of it that exists. Period.

It can push easily 240k dps on sheet, with most enemies stripped entirely of resists, there is literally a handful of enemies in the game that have more than 50% aether resist and on of them is Aleksander and i have killed him without any issues with this build. I think you underestimate how hard 240k dps hits in a constant beam that pierces and to boot is doing 10% lifesteal with a healing buff from the set itself also popping off regularly. It makes you near unkillable.

Im a sausage fingered useless idiot but someone actually good at the game could easily take out superbosses with this build as you can cycle through immunity skills meaning you have I believe about 60% damage absorption on average, but im terrible at managing cooldowns so I cant do that but its totally doable. The reason this is superior to the elemental versions is it has native pure conversion, and native 10% lifesteal. The only comparable version is to my mind is the chaos version using the Black flame covenant but it has nowhere near the survivability of the clairvoyant set on a spellbinder.

Yes I would agree spellbinders (well most arcanist builds tbh) are gear dependent. That said they can comfortably handle the main game and standard content, but yeah would struggle with higher tier content. I mean aAR with a pulsing shard and just a few key pieces is still really strong, it hits like a truck and has 6% lifesteal, which is what most spell builds struggle with.

The clairvoyant set for my money is the best arcanist set hands down, I think some prefer Trozans but me personally I just dont like how that spell works, I find it irritating.

Uroboruuks is a weird one, when it first appeared it was really strong. I actually used to farm the key dungeons on ultimate with mine prior to FG being a thing. Then a few patches sort of nerfed that and buffed other things a bit and just the nature of how the game played changed a bit and it became decidedly meh (IMO)

Drain essence did see some high level play briefly when FG came out using that amulet that added retaliation damage to Drain Essence and playing it as tanky character (deathknight) it was broken levels of OP though, and got promptly smacked with the nerf bat.

The DMG to healthconversion with the high hitrate is what can make something that felt close to glass feel unstoppable, as it is possible to create depending on the HP a close to 50%to 40% max HP regenerate every proc and that is on a single target, though if that fine line of balance where you like the upper hand is broken, things like the Clairvoyent Set or Mythical White Lotus , Serenity are realy usefull, except the enemy just overpowers your HP with a single hit, since there's no regenerating up from 0 without a respawn.

And there's from my point of knowledge 3 ways to get the Aetherray healing without adding Twin Fangs from bat as an option, there are 2 items which will combine to 10% dmg to health conversion on the AAR and there's the option to go over Weapondamge which would need inbuilt lifesteal and that would need a different choice in gear as it would require a specific amulet to add the damage and some extra gear to add lifesteal to the character or a tool I'm unaware of.

Mhh.. so the complete Clairvoyant-Set makes this much of a Difference compared to other options ? That would mean it´s the best "HighDmg + Life-leech" build for Necro, since DrainEssence / SiphoningSouls is usually nowhere near.. and Spellbinder the best Class-combo for Clairvoyant right !?

I admit, it sounds tempting to test it, but I imagine the full Legendary Clairvoyant Set is a ton of farming - similar to Black Flame Set ? ;((
Seems it comes down to luck finding the Helmet-recipe and craft the other pieces then..

Took me a few days to get a complete mythical set, though I relied on other players support on my approaches to collect gear.

The Proc of the Clairvoyent set ups the damage and offers some healing without conversion over damage, so it's a usefull tool. It provides many stats and some realy beneficial skillpoints, though at first glance it seemed like a Warlock set, since it offers Doombolt support , my spellbinder could never split from it in the time I've been playing.

You can add Siphon Souls to the rotation while playing AAR , since it will up the overall incoming healing to the character you can reach a different balance point of rasing or falling HP in fight, if you can stop the channeling without beeing served death for that. Outsustaining the beating on each others HP bars is something this build can do sometimes realy well, though there might be occasions, where you'r busy minuts of channeling and keeping your skills on cooldowns.

I would need to try again, to see , if I can't push over Callagadra(I can't on ultimate.), though I've done that on lower difficulties, though I assume to recall, that I would rift myself to safespots if I'm on either groundeffects or in a tornado or run for a potion to be ready or a CD to be able to safely channel without risking death.
The last time I've fought them the other 2 Celestials called Ravager and The Avatar of Mogdrogen where not able to push my health completely to 0 before I pushed theirs there, though that's a bit of RNG dependent and good use of cooldowns, like dropping down to 4% or 5% of HP turning on the Mirror of Ereoctes using a Nullification and heal back up to 100% through the DMG to healthconversion is something that's important to understand, that you bridge your cooldowns by letting go of HP if it's neccessary and your enemy can outtrade your incoming healing, and there's an amount of them that can do that to my character or at least groups of enemies that can be capable of that. The Amount of times you use Nullification can be vital to success, last time I've checked your build you had 0 points in it, and I'm quite sure I wouldn't have been able to outtrade many of the challenges overcome without that skill.

Honestly if someone was good enough at rotations (EG not me) i cant see how they wouldnt be able to take out superbosses with a clairvoyant based AAR spellbinder. With the right devotion set up and eternity you can keep immunity skills on almost permanently. But it would require a fair bit of skill to pull off, something I have neither the patience or actual talent to pull of lol

And I haven't played Eternity yet , though that was on the list of things I've considered of doing.
But honestly Callagadra pushed me over the last time on ultimate with a 3 man group. Mark of Torment didn't feel enough to be able to bridge for the Mirror to be active again, so it would become a hit and run fight, which I had no interest in performing yet.
