A relics still a total pain in the a** to make?
What I mean is: I remember from my previous playthroughs that the highest tier of relics seemed almost impossible to make, because they'd be setup like this:

Tier 1 relic: most of them fairly easy to make and find resources for

Tier 2 relic: Some a**-pain begins - several relics require other level 1 and 2 relics, and now they also require more rare resources, I have a vague memory of a certain relic requiring some resource that only ONE single boss drops. Not only that, he drops a shard (a 3rd or 4th of a crafting resource), so already there you'd have to grind the same boss several times for that one single relic.

Tier 3 relics: like tier 2 but on coke and roids, so ultimately frustrating, stupid and demotivating.

Of all my 700 hours of playing, finishing with a handful of characters on normal+veteran AND elite, but never on ultimate. Partially because the high level gear felt so stupidly hard to get, and that's not considering the massive headache I get when I try to re-build or gear-up an endgame character.

Having to keep in mind all those percentages and values and resistances and skills and cooldowns is just.....BAH! And then how to combine them with all the devotions, almost makes me want to uninstall the game...

But I saw an unexpected update to the game the other day, and thought I should give it a spin to see if it's more manageable now. So is it?

Nothing's going to change on the crafting side of things for this game. Maybe if Crate get around to making GD2 one day they'll overhaul the system, but it won't happen for GD1.

Only thing that did change a while back - so it must be a really long time since you played - is that components no longer drop as partials; they're complete components now when they drop.

Oh yeah, you're right, I remember that now, and that's a neat little QoL-improvement that I did experience in what little GD I played in 2020/2021, but as you can probably tell from my thread, nowhere near "enough for me". :dos2skull:

I don't mind the grinding or fetching but I often completely forget, halfway through the actual process, what I was originally trying to make.
I now chant to myself as I'm crafting, repeating each step, so I can find my way back to the beginning without taking notes.
I'm not even high half the time.

Hahaha! So I take it that "wacky tobaccy" is not essential to ALL the crafting recipes? :dos2skull:

Honestly, crafting relics is nowhere near the miserable experience of years ago. Good grief, the material fragments were awful. My one (current) problem was getting a T1 blueprint that failed to drop and only figuring out the missing step after getting all the rare materials for a T3 Annihilation. So that took rolling a new char, leveling up, clearing both paths, and then farming two bosses that are the most likely to drop the damned recipe.

All in all, it's not a total pain. More like a 10% pain if you weren't lucky with drops the first time around and only see your fault when close to Ultimate. And of course, being finally able to drop meteors out of the sky is worth it :)

Honestly I loved, and still do, partial components. Reason = completion bonuses

Completion bonuses made them absolutely worthwhile and when they first decided to do away with them they tossed out the "bone" that they would try to find a way to reimplement them. Sadly, that day never came.

Anything that adds 1) more RNG, and 2) greater build depth/tweaks and customization... I am all for. RNG and build depth is what makes a rogue-like a rogue-like and a diablo-like a diablo-like. They are the cornerstones of both genres.

Thank you most kindly McCloud sir! Please accept an award as a small token of gratitude.:angelpeek:

Now I at least have an excellent overview of how mindnumbingly grindy it is to achieve just a single of those high-tier relics. :dos2skull:

...and there was much rejoicing.
