Should I be getting more legendaries?
I'm at level 69. I've beaten the main campaign on normal. I'll dip my toe in and do some veteran here and there. My character does a ton of damage, but I can also be one-shotted pretty easily.

Throughout this whole game, been playing for a couple weeks now many many hours, and I only have like 2 purple pieces. At this rate I feel like I'll have to put thousands of hours into this game to get to a good end game build.

Should I be doing anything differently to get good gear? I'm doing the shattered realm at the moment and I am getting yellow pieces, barely any greens and an occasional blue, but nothing even close to legendary or a legendary set piece. Just seems like the drop rate for good loot in this game is vanishingly small, even smaller than comparable games like Diablo 2 and 3

Legendary drop rates on Normal/Vet are the lowest. You get a bump on Elite and then again on Ultimate.

You need to go into elite. Yes legendaries will drop for you in normal, they drop after level 50. But just playing through the campaign will be much faster for you. You'll run into totems that drop em, you'll get em from major quests and exalted chests after bosses, as well as bosses dropping them themselves. Don't bother with veteran, just go elite. Low shard shattered realms (like 1-49) aren't really even worth the time, imo, especially on normal difficulty.

So yeah, you're gonna have to improve your build if you're getting one shotted on normal/veteran. Utilize components. Build up your reputation by continuing the campaign in elite. Then you can eventually get augments from the faction vendors which help immensely for resists. Sacrifice some of that damage for survivability. Cap all resists, put most of your attribute points into Physique, and get more shrines for devotions that will also help immensely. The devotions you want depend on your build, so idk which ones you should go for, but they help a lot.

Feel free to post your build. Upload it on grimtools and post it here and people will give you some useful tips to help you survive. But yeah, the biggest thing is to get out of normal. Normal difficulty rewards are trash.

Sometimes legendary gear is not the best, depending on your build. Some rare monster infrequent items can be really good if you know where to farm them. In shattered realms you get rarer loot the deeper you go in one run, I usually do 3-5 boss rooms before I pick up the reward.

Also there is a legendary smith in Tyrant's Hold that spawsn in Elite/Ultimate difficulty that can craft you random legendaries. It's a gamble, but still another way to get purple gear.

Just so you know, it's best to do 2 shards at a time. 50-51, 65-66, or 75-76, then cash out. It's the best time:reward ratio, objectively. 4 or 5 shards at a time is a waste.

Good to know. Still need to do some longer runs to get that high though. Btw does it make a big difference if you run those on elite or ultimate?

Yes. You get a lot better drops on ultimate. I forget the numbers, but there's charts people have made for normal vs elite vs ultimate. There's a good youtube video all about it if you wanna look into it.
And yeah, that sucks you still gotta climb up. You should really just host some SR games and hope someone joins that can make a higher waystone, then you play through it, and you can make those waystones. Climbing up that high yourself is mind numbing. I remember me and a friend climbed up to like 30 when we first got the game, and it burned us out so bad we stopped playing for months before I eventually got the itch again lol.
Feel free to add me if you want and I can jump into softcore and get you a higher shard waystone sometime. Then you will never have to do lower ones ever again.

Thanks for the tip, I might check some more gearing guides for ultimate. Also thanks for the invite, but I prefer to play this game "solo self found", that's why I'm filling my stash with all the crap lol. I can use them to farm gear for other characters while having fun playing a new build, but my next one is going to be HC and I definitely want to play it solo. Also this conversation is going a bit off-topic lol

There's no shared stash between softcore and hardcore. If you do a hardcore character next, you'll have to start over anyway. No point in farming softcore for hardcore gear.

Do elite difficulty. Chapters 1-4 are not difficult. You should notice a big difference in drop rates. Higher risk, higher reward. I do SSF all the time and usually start elite immediately after chapter 4. Just get in there and go for it. I you aren't dying, you aren't learning the game.

This game has so many items, it can take a long time to get something specifc.
Shattered realm normal won't help IMO.
Yep, hardcore and softcore characters don't share anything game-wise so gear, blueprints, etc, you found on softcore you'll have to find all over again on hardcore.

This is an extremely useful site for you to look at. https://www.grimtools.com/ In the build calculator you can upload your character file directly. This will allow you to generate a link to it, so that you can post the link here, in order to get more customized advice from this forum. It is the most comprehensive database available directly related to Grim Dawn.
