Sure, all aether area are pain, but the start of the game is just so boring in my opinion. Walk in buring bulding, some forest and kill zombie-ish things, dont really feel so special in any way.
Both world and mobs start to shine as soon as you get to Burrwitch outskirts and then game start to get fun!
Tho im pretty new to Grim Dawn and is only half way in elite with my first chars, but i did try to visit and explore everything, and Port Valbury is not super hard (atleast in normal) except for the boss with was pain.
But i have 2 more chars i did start with, and that long way up to Burrwitch village is so long, slow and mostly boring xD
I can partly relate to this ;)
But oh gods, you don't know what you are up to when progressing, lol
I agree with the progress to Burrwitch Village, seems sometimes very long, especially as you can't make a save point apart from the rifts, as in many other areas though. That's why I would like to change this point, especially considering the Malmouth and Ugdenbog areas too.
A "pity workaround" is that sometimes I just stay connected and put my PC on pause when I don't want to continue the game and replay it until the next rift point.
But I take a note on what you say about Port Valbury: with one of my end-level characters, I should try it at least once on softcore Normal to experience it ;)
Aether os pain in elite, and im really looking forward to harder part as right now i did take some tips from other build and try it on my own build. Im happy i play softcore right now to learn as i have made some huuuge misstake so far that end up as me dead...
Eeeerrrgh, the mistakes I made myself!
Most important: experiment yourself and have fun ;)
And to try to stay on topic!
Origin of the Sliths, or how it is spell, is a super anoying quest. The poison water on the floor got a range thats stupid, sometime you dont even see it and it melt you down before you even notic it during battle -.-
Think i went down 2 times during that quest as my pets block the view for me and im to slow to move camera around xD
I was so stupid, wondering why I died and returning to the spot, suspecting that there was a hidden boss before noticing that it was just the poisoned ground waters, lol
So semi-permanent aether and poison damages are the same pain in the a**
Have a blast, cheers :)
I also don't like the underground dungeons (the caves are mostly okay, except that they tend to have the worms that drop poison pools when killed) or the chaos rifts.
I rather like "The Feast" and the backtracking, because at this step it helps to test your character's survivability. But I can understand!
Ugdenborg, Gloomwald and generally all floor damages, either on aether or poison even with max resistances, yeah, a real pain in the a.. ;)
Makes me think of other quests I "hate", yeah: "The Origin of the Slith" and the last step of the "Hidden Path", both a floor poison nightmare lol
But overall I'm happy with these quests as they are the rare ones pretty challenging.
And this topic is "secondary degree" anyway, just for "fun" ;)
Fortunately there don't seem to be many of those in GD.
