Random FPS drop
Ok so i am having a rather annoying issue with the game. The game runs relatively well at around 50-60 fps. But every now and again I get these FPS drops of below 30 that can last anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes. It doesn’t seem to be in any specific situation like number of enemies, loot drops, graphic intensive areas or anything else. My PC should be able to run this smoothly and to double-check I also used an online system requirement test for it and I should be able to run it at well above the 30 fps mark even on ultra. I have tried suggestions from different forums and threads:
- Modifying the options text file in my games folder.
- I used the nvidia control panel to make sure it is using the right GPU and also ensured that it used the “Prefer Maximum Performance” setting.
- I turned off Cloud saving
- I gave it priority in the processes tab in task manager
- Made sure vertical sync is disabled
- I have not tried to disable hyperthreading in BIOS but I would prefer not to do that if possible since it would be just for this one game.
And I did a couple of other things I don’t remember right now. Anyway please help me with this problem. I really like the game and I want to play it smoothly.

Are you running the game in Borderless Windowed mode? If not, give that a try.

Don't want to sound snarky, but I have to say that there are literally dozens upon dozens of threads on this issue already. 9 times out 10 it is just going to end up being the game engine acting up. It is 10 years old and not well optimized.

Yes i have already tried that. Also believe me i have seen the majority of those threads. Everyone seems to have different fixes that work for them but i can't find anything tha works for myself. Just frustrating that's all.

I would try the Hyperthreading at least to see. If it doesn't work then at least you know and can re-enable it.

I cannot find any option in BIOS to disable hyperthreading. I have a Lenovo Y50. Also nothing helpfull on google.

Interestingly enough i have seen a similar behaviour (seemingly randome FPS drops) with Counter Strike Global Offensive. Don't know if they are related though

Have tried Low lighting still the same. I don't think it has to do with the video quality seetings. I have noticed that even changing video settings does nothing.

I searched yours up and I'm not seeing anything in the specifications that it even supports hyperthreading.

Alot of the reviews seem bad, one in particular comments on the heat it produces. Perhaps during the periods where it lags randomly the heat has reached a high enough state to affect performance? Might be worth monitoring the temps during.

edit:K found your processor

It does support hyperthreading. There should be something in the BIOS for it.

Do you have Turbo enabled in the BIOS? Your CPU base is 2.4 but it says with Turbo enabled you can get 3.4. That would certainly help.

I think turbo is already enabled because when i look in task manager it says the speed is 3.38 GHz. Also i have looked in the bios myself and i do not see any hyperthreading option. The laptop itself is in my opinion very good. It is listed as a gaming laptop, maybe not the absolute best but it has served me very well so far. I can run Fallout 4 just fine for example. Could it have to do with the fact that i just got a monitor for gaming and i am outputing from the laptop to the monitor. The monitor is an ASUS full HD 144 Hz gamin display.

Edit: Also i forgot to mention that i have had this game installed on this laptop before and it ran with no problems.

It could be and if it does it all comes back to temperature. I can't think of any good reason for drops that last minutes even with low activity other than temp.

The higher the refresh rate the harder your system has to work and GD does lean on the CPU alot, mostly because the engine isn't optimized to make optimal use of all your cores. It uses them all but not evenly like many modern games do now. What resolution are you using?

1920- 1080
As far as i can see the game only lets me choose 1920 -1080 with 59 Hz refresh rate as the highest resolution option

If you go into Steam settings and dig around you should see an option to display FPS in-games. Enable it so you can see what is actually going on while you play and what your frames are at.

Or nevermind.. Re-reading your OP I see you can see your frames already.

I don't know if you tried this, but several months ago someone siggested this to me and it helped. I have pretty much everything maxed out except lighting. for some reason my pc can't handle it.

I just installed a temp monitor as well and when the FPS drop happened the CPU and GPU temps seem to have been soemwhere around 80 plus degrees.
Also in Task manager for some reason it was showing that the Speed of the cpu was only 0.78 GHz. Is it beacuse of the temperature ? I have never had this problem before.
