It's more like "more ppl, less challenge and hence = better reward.
While enemy HP scales (and I think it's not even linear) it doesn't take the "moar players, moar auras..." effect into account
And in general I would never say that overall mp is more challange - quite opposite.
Also about the Topic with Multiplayer and Challenging, i would argue it's not an issue of arpgs or grim dawn per se, but moreover the general idea of giving the Game the option to enjoy it to the fullest as a Singlepayer AND Multiplayer-Game. And if you consider the Fact that Grim Dawn's Focus lies on the Singleplayer, it's obviously that Multiplayer will get in some way easier, due a good Difficulty isn't only about the Damage Enemies do or how much life they have, it's also about Gamemechanics itself. You can't hardly introduce an holy trinity (as example) if you want your Game to have an focus on singleplayer, because holy trinity encourage group play, which means the whole gameplay is centered around for you having tank, dd and healer. So of course, theoretically speaking they could focus on that, and if you play solo they tone it down to an level where this holy trinity doesn't matter anymore, but than it would feel cheap and the fights a bit generic. Well of course there might be solutions for that, but i'd argue the whole experience would never feel as good as an Game which focus on singleplayer and handcraft such an experience.
That beeing said, though i still find a fair share of challenging a good thing(and for me Grim Dawn can be challenging at times as well) i would argue anyway that this Genre, ARPG isn't about that much "challenging" to begin with, it's about to play with your friends for many hours, grind for loot and exp, explore the map and secrets, as well it's game mechancis and have a good time.
sometime people dig too deep into the game, and stop remembering that they supposed to having fun when play game.
