Black Screen Bug - Working Fix

Black screen with visible cursor and sound, long standing bug with nvidia cards, posting new thread for future ref and not to necro old ones. Tested/confirmed on laptop (2070m) and desktop (3080ti).

Working fix:

1) set max fps

Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings -> Max Frame Rate = set to 60 or your monitor refresh rate

+ this is the main issue, older threads with other solutions/older cards? not addressing it

2) for general stability run the 64bit version

Steam Library -> Grim Dawn Properties -> Set Launch Options -> write /x64

3080Ti. I am playing fullscreen limiting fps to 120 through the game mechanic (choose resolution and fps, ex: 3840x1600&120 ingame video option) and still have this bug.

It's worth mentioning that the next patch coming for GD will feature a few crash and memory leak fixes.

Fixed a memory leak which could occur when loading items with certain combinations of stats.

Fixed a crash which could occur randomly when some randomly generated items were present in the game world.

Fixed a crash which could occur when rendering fonts with some combinations of characters.

if the fix didn't apply to you then fair to say it's a different bug, or rather a different cause for the outcome/issue

try reinstall game, redistributables, (clean) reinstall drivers,
or try disable steam overlay for grim dawn, since last year seems like it became a "thing" for some people after a steam client update, turning off steam overlay for GD for them seemed to help there

That helped me. Not a single crash after I turned it off a year ago.

Just wanted to +1 this, was really starting to give me the ♥♥♥♥♥, crashing roughly once an hour, haven't had a crash in the past 10 hours since turning this off.

Yeah so coming in real late here to add another +1 to this. Seems to have fixed the issue for me and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere else.

I'm facing the same issue, blackscreen crash with only cursor showing and music playing as soon as I want to load into a character. Also I cant find the auto-itemcompare setting anywhere, somebody willing to help me out?

as for the black screen
have to tried the common fixes? verify game files, use repair tool in game folder, reinstall game, reinstall re-destributables etc?

legit spacing out what stat black screen on loading char was/could been since UPnP etc is for black screen on start up
but maybe try delete the intro video and see if that helps?

I'll try the auto-items on the ground thing that was mentioned but 6/30/2024 and I've been having this issue with my 4090.
